***Highs And Lows*** [ 2014 a Self-Reflection ]

So we are fast approaching the end of what has been an incredible year at the-elite and Goldeneye in particular.

The point of this topic is to self reflect on your year personally, and list the highs and lows

I'll start it off with:

Highs:

1. Discovering the Caverns SA mine throw strategy. It's always been a dream of mine to discover a useful timesaver in Goldeneye and I could finally have my own piece in history with this find.

2. Reaching 4th place with an unhoard I never thought I would be able to do, especially considering moving house and starting a new job at the same time.

3. Meeting Patrik and Karl, hanging out in Melbourne and then getting Bunker 1 SA 0:21 the same night Patrik left (after seeing him off on a tram).

4. Getting Caverns Agent 1:01 after only 2 hours of attempts (first proper session). Felt like I had finally got revenge on a level that completely screwed me over in my first career stint back in 2006.

Lows:

1. After over 400 legit Frigate 0:23 fails, still not having a completion.

2. Choking 2 Facility 00A 0:52s by leaving a few frames too early.

3. My Aztec Agent 1:31 back in January really made me think I was done with the game forever. This was when I stopped playing for 2 months and came back fresh in March.

4. Caverns SA 1:13 B fail 5 hours into attempts.

5. Waking up to Caverns SA 1:16 (my first proper untied) tied by Illu.

6. Not getting 0:49 on my S2 SA Completion - even though it put me past Marc for 12 hrs.

Highs:

1. All the meetings, in particular the one at Illu's place where I met Henrik for the first time. Even got myself some PD PRs and witnessed Henrik's runs with the timer. Also the Extraction battle I had with Eise, and playing multi with Illu and Henning.

2. Visiting Nick in Holland. Had a great time.

3. Aztec A 1:28.

5. Aztec SA 1:39 using the new strat + nade. Did not get any other PRs than these Aztecs.

6. Not GE-related, but got sub 3h rare time, only 8th to do so.

Lows:

1. Can't really think of many lows since I haven't played GE much. Not beating Aztec on DLTK (I find it very hard) is a disappointment though.

2. PD: struggling with Defection PA and CI.

Coming back to GE ILs and Climbing to a high of 11th place on the ranks after returning from Japan
Winning Smash Bros 64 Tourney in MN this november
Winning a shit ton of MP2 Games in MN
Achieving 16 Archives about 100 times, including on PAL, Projector
18 Archives with fishing controller

4. Joining the Mumble Crew, chatting and getting helpful advice from world-class players.

5. From the amount of time I've put into the game, I'm happy with some of the decent times I've grabbed

Lows:

1. Depot 00A 0:48 docs fail, because I'm a scrub (had an SA 0:40 docs fail but nailed it later )

2. Duel 3, waste of 2 minutes. 

3. Duel 6, waste of an hour. 

4. My half idiot, half forced reactions to most PRs. 

[Icy]

Highs:

1) Joining The Elite in late March.
2) Completing Attack Ship DLTK and many more levels.
3) Discovering and inventing new strategies for various LTK levels.
4) Getting all 5 WRs in Duel and never having to play it again.
5) 3:30 club.
6) Top 100 in both games, top 5 in all LTK categories.
7) First and only to complete Surface 2 LTK + FA.
8) Getting a godlike UWR in Bronze Tranquilizer Firing Range.
9) Meeting and hanging with Flickerform.
10) Maian SOS DLTK untied. ;D

Lows:

1) Getting mad at Defection PA and taking a month break, lol.
2) Dying in Caverns DLTK on the absolute last guard after over an hour in.
3) Dying incredibly stupid deaths during first completion attempts for Attack Ship DLTK.
4) Taking way longer to get Cradle LTK 35 than it should have.
5) Blowing UWR-pace hostages on Frigate LTK.

Not done for major goals this year yet. =)

HIGHS:

getting to the age where the cold in winter is starting to annoy me
wanting to change quite a few things in my life but not actually getting around to doing it (ugh, laziness...)
the unsettling realization that I probably need to get a job soon for long term b/c poker just won't be doable for a western salary in a few years.   it's now a lot like any professional sport, top guys make most of it, everybody else gets to fight for crumbs or washes out to have to go do something else, and I'm getting to the latter part.  (wonder how much somerville does with his rather large twitch following tho his poker sponsorship site died this week)
oh and massively choking the kart tournament in VA  I'd have felt bad if I had any chance of winning.

1. Regaining the throne by getting all world records in Mickey Speedway USA (19 UWR's in 2 months).
2. Winning the GE championship for the third time in VA.
3. Meeting Luke and Karl in Melbourne. (Including duping 51 B2 SA after 15 minutes of playing with missed warp, drinking beer and playing poker on a casino).
4. Meeting up with Mark Jones and Adam Matis in California. (Milky bunz, Scotch and cigars in the backyard).
4. PRing in 2014 (Streets 1:13 and B2 SA 51).
5. Seeing new players climb the ranks, such as speedrun legend Cosmo.

7. Winning the Swedish Coffee Tasting Championship and finishing 7th in the World. Graduating from Uni and receiving scholarship for my thesis. Half-way to my Diploma in Wines and Spirits at WSET in London.

1. Wasting a few hours on B2, 48's with one missed cam.
2. My main computer crashing during a small restoration project (found a bag with old speedrun VHS tapes).
3. Being too tired and bummed out after the coffee competition to give Karl a match in GE multi.
4. Missing out on Swedish meets.
5. Heading towards an all-time low rank of 36 in GE.

2. Getting Archives Agent 0:16 and Runway Agent 0:22
3. PR'ing fairly quick in GoldenEye 007 last summer. Very happy about Streets Agent 1:13 and Depot Secret Agent 0:43. Frigate Secret Agent 1:09 actually too considering hostages that just never escapes.
4. Skyrocketing up the ranks in Perfect Dark when I came back to it a few months ago.
5. 63/63 proven in Perfect Dark.
Highs from other stuff non-GE/PD related:
6. Getting sub 1 in 70 Star.
7. Getting 18:27 in 16 Star in a race and Skype Call. That was way before the new Cannonless was discovered.
8. Fun racing on SRL.
9. Calling every chocolate milk 'Nesquik'

Lows:
1. Silo Agent 1:06 took way too long to get. Secret Agent took too long aswell, but less long as Silo Agent 1:06.
2. 2 hours total trying to get Duel Perfect Agent 0:09 and still didn't get it. I currently gave up on it. I shouldn't worry now since SA 0:06 took about 4 hours back in 2008. Don't know what was up with that, just thinking positive.
3. Still being unable to play GE JAP. I ordered JAP the same day as the gamebit screwdrivers. GE JAP arrived in a week. The security gamebit screwdrivers still haven't arrived. It's been more than a month now. Almost 2 months.
4. No one cares about PD.

- 3.54 GPA 2nd semester (which ended in May) (also keep in mind 4 GPA is 95+ for me here which is pretty ridic to get), if all goes well the next 3 weeks I might get 3.6-3.7 this semester)
- made my first android app earlier last week, I might learn more of this and hopefully publish some stuff on the app store if I get good at it
- mumble is a fun chill place to hang around in
- got a nice new phone, tablet, laptop this year

Lows:
 - still haven't gotten partnered on Twitch because I was too lazy to upgrade my Internet until summer break was over, now I don't have time
- superpad stick broke so RIP Depot 39/46
- lost 2 of my untied sweeps
- my original goals for the year, Facility SA 0:51 and B1 SA 0:20, still haven't been achieved
- degen'd pretty hard for some records (Train SA 1:23, etc)

Highs:
-ESA/GE meet x2. Long overdue meet with fellow Swedes + Illu's run turned out really amazing.
-Control strat. A seemingly minor route change idea somehow leads to untieds on all difficulties, including two on Agent.
-Playing wise, this was the best GE year of my career, had an insane beginning of the year with POM award ( ) and achieved pretty much all of my goal times throughout the year. Most of them being PAL tied/untied WRs as well. Was very close to reaching my ultimate goal of 1900+ Agent points, but haven't played Silo yet.
-Depot 25. I truly struggled with this level, and had almost given up hope of ever achieving it. Probably the GE time i'm most proud of.

Honorable mentions:
-Depot DLTK 1:26. Pretty cool time + Found lots of nice strategy improvements to make it happen.
-Frigate 0:23. Not really that big a deal, since it's just a matter of time. Still, very nice to actually get it.

Lows:
-Failing to achieve Fac 44.

Nah m8. 76 hours from my very first time touching the level as a speedrun. So through my PR of 0:29 in february to 0:16 in July.

I'm intentionally late to this party, but I think now is the best time to put my post in here.

Highs:
- Holding top 10 all year, taking the blow of Karl passing me, taking my game to the next level and shooting for times only 91 points and over.
- Taking some time off to buy a Wii U this summer and get very very good at Mario Kart 8 - it's now one of my all time favorite games and I can roll with the best of them online.
- Buying a new computer and getting a decent stream set up finally - smooth framerate and good audio.
- Putting streams into perspective, now I actually enjoy playing even though the game drives me insane sometimes.
- Passing Illu, even though he's inactive. I felt this really solidified my status as a player.
- I just won my first fantasy football championship in time for AGDQ. This takes a load off my mind and gives me an extra $300 for the trip.
- ... I just got engaged! Luckily Rachel is pretty cool and participates in twitch chats.

Lows:
- Getting embarrassingly fired (my own fault) at my other "big boy" job this summer, but at the same time, they forced my hand and got me out of a job I hated. Now I'm back to a familiar employer (8 years and counting) with so many old friends.
- Never going for that signature world record like Bunker 1 SA 0:21 or Surface 2 SA 0:49. I feel I need one of these bad ass times to stand out from the rest of the players. I'll always be a point grinder (minus this weird obsession with Caverns 00A lately) but some day I'll get 0:21 when I feel a bit more aggressive.
- Missing AGDQ 2014 due to old job, I will not be missing AGDQ 2015.

My wife and I really enjoy Mario Kart 8. I miss the way some of the bikes handled in the Wii version, as well as the wheelies to gain tiny bits of speed, but really solid game, and really solid DLC too. What's your favorite character/kart/wheel combo?

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Rayman Legends, and Super Mario 3D World are all really solid games too.
