First off GOOD NEWS, legendary 1999 to 2001 era Karter Stephen Kittel is going to be driving down from PA to join us for the tournament! He was a top time trialer back in the day so it should be interesting to see how he's able to perform all of these years later.
Nash- Jones and I were thinking of having him face Thingy for the final spot in the field which would remove you from the official tourney. It sounded like you hadn't done much Kart and wouldn't mind being bumped but if that's not the case let us know before Wed and we can switch it to a Fatal Threeway.
With Stephen in place the field is now set!

Bottom finisher in each play in will be eliminated, others will be seeded into the Sweet 16 based on their performance.
Secondly, in an effort to communicate things better ahead of time let's get the tourney info set in stone. From the discussion in this thread it sounded like everyone who could make it this year was pretty much in agreement but if anyone does still have objections, now would be the time to raise them.
Kart Setup for 2016
* No Shortcuts, trying out something new for this year to see how it goes. This includes everything (no Rainbow jump, no going over any walls in Wario, no jumping the river in Royal), but obviously the intentional "cuts" will still be allowed (ramp on Koopa Beach, cutting to the left in Yoshi to get to the egg faster).
* Real Time Scoring, DK has updated the sheet & streaming setup so we should be able to display the point totals for all 4 players as a running tally. Should make for a pretty cool experience for those watching on twitch; we'll of course test this with some practice runs ahead of time to make sure it goes smoothly.
* EverDrive replacing Gamesharks, Jones and Weatherton have worked together to make some permanent modifications such as allowing all 4 players to pick the same driver, we'll of course test it thoroughly ahead of time but if it looks good we'll try using that solution instead of the Gameshark (which has always crashed at the lightest touch to the table).
* New track order of Mushroom, Special, Star, Flour. This moves Rainbow up to the last track before "halftime" and means we'll finish rounds with some hopefully intense finishes on Choco and Mario Raceway.
* Specific times for all matches set ahead of time, we're going to try for this as much as possible though it will be a little difficult with some players arriving later at night (specifically Jones and Duff). The biggest day is going to be Thursday when we will be trying to get through basically all of Round One, I'll try to set firm times for the 6 non-Jones matches and communicate those to everyone early that afternoon so people will know when they have 3 hours to go on the boat or play basketball at the high school or whatnot.
* All official Kart matches (including play ins) will be run downstairs on the projector and twitch streamed so it's fair for everyone.
EDIT - Whoops forgot about tiebreakers, those will be done the same as last year which Jones described as
2 Players tied:
Players must unanimously agree on their choice of:
- 4P Vs: 2 idle characters, Best 2 out of 3, tracks chosen at random
- 2P GP: 1 cup, chosen at random (most GP points wins)
- 2P Vs: Best 2 out of 3, track chosen at random
If no format can be agreed upon, 4P vs. with 2 idle characters will be played by default
3 Players tied:
Players must unanimously agree on their choice of:
- 4P Vs: 1 Idle character, Most points after 4 races, tracks chosen at random
- 3P Vs: Most points after 4 races, tracks chosen at random
If no format can be agreed upon, 4P vs. with 1 idle character will be played by default
4 Players tied:
- 4P Vs: Most points after 4 races, tracks chosen at random
(so basically we draw 3 or 4 track names out of the hat and do versus until its decided)
