New N64 joysticks
« on: March 02, 2016, 04:41:09 am »
Hey guys! I found a new kickstarter campaign that allows N64 joysticks to be manufactured again. Could this end the struggle to find the perfect 10/10 controller? It sure is targeted at competitive gaming, mentioning both Smash Bros. and GoldenEye. I'm sure that some of you already have come across this, but I didn't find any threads about it and I wanted to spread the word!

It really looks legit, what do you think?

That looks like a neat project! I really hope for the people involved that the sticks will deliver the same experience as the original n64 controller.
Looks as if he isn't going to reproduce the gears because they seem to have too many details. I wonder how he is going to deliver the product then?
Also the whole product looks like a bit of a gamble whether the quality of the stick/bowl will even be passable.

That is true. I'm not sure what gives the authentic feeling either and how the gears affect that. As he says in the FAQ, it will not be in this Kickstarter project but he will definitely look into it. However, this project will be a great start and setup to find a way to replicate the gears in the future.
I guess that the product will just be the stick and the bowl, by the look of the incentives.

I am almost sure some unknown game store in Japan has the exact tools needed to reproduce N64-sticks accurately. After the plant in Uji stopped making equipment, there is a possibility that some of it got sold off or just discarded for people to pick up.

I've seen decent spare parts on sale in various stores there before, and I'm going there again in April to look for more. Too bad the good sticks are really expensive.

Backed it for $25. Just for casual gaming the N64 is the retro console I go to most and this issue with good joysticks becoming less and less available needs to be fixed. Always a risk but I hope this turns out well@!

I remember seeing this on reddit. Told the dude to advertise it on speedrunning sites. First several internet points =D. Seriously though, there's a real need for this. I still want to get a million points in 1080 like they did in the SSX games.
