I still love Nintendo, but damn this thing is already a joke to me. Is anyone really waiting for another modular device between a Wii, wii U and a.. PS Vita? Yes, mobile gaming is getting more popular, but that doesn't mean people are willing to drag along another device around town just to play mario game #3269. The world has been past this point for literally 5-10 years already, welcome to the world of smartphones. Honestly, I really hoped they would stop with the gimicky consoles that have an interesting idea but always end up gathering dust on a shelve, never to be touched again. The Wii pulled that trick on a global scale and it was awesome ten years ago, but it won't work again. You'd think they would have learned their lesson with the Wii U...
Obviously there's going to be problems with parts getting lost, poor battery life, connection issues, horribly high priced replacement parts, you name it.
Also, I really don't get the whole concept of it. Gaming platforms should be open en easily accessible. Look at modern platforms such as steam, modding communities, how other consoles are programmed, Twitch, Discord, etc. Gaming is all about sharing and connectivity these days. It brings people together in new ways, especially if you believe in the future of VR this wont stop. It is certainly not about riding around town on a bike with clumspy modular nintendo parts falling out of your bag, which you physically have bring along to a friend because you want to play Mario Party 891 together.
Sure, Nintendo fans will buy it all again like religious zealots, but this hardware won't be picked up by any new generation gamers using modern gaming platforms, OR any gamer they've lost during PS3/PS4/X360/X1 generation for that matter. I truly wonder if that leaves enough people for it to become a succes.
