- everyone in the commercial is over 30, which is funny because at least they finally know who they need to market to

- why are they only NOW marketing Splatoon as an eSport?  Fuck dude I used to be one of the best in the world.  Is it time I crack out Splatoon again?

looks pretty neat, seems like nintendo may have learned from a few of their mistakes with the wii u.  Might buy one, probably not at launch though.

so you can walk around with part of it, isn't that the same as the wii u? the controller parts slide on to the box which could be convenient but it looks extremely clumsy and something that would break easily. and the controller in each case looks pretty bad, especially the one when carrying the screen around.

that's alright though, the less gimmicks the better probably. also probably a good move going to charcoal over white if they want to aim for an older market. they play some zelda which has what looks to be a watered down wind waker style look to it , something which looked like dark souls + slyrim and some Mario Kart. too early to say but to me the consoles success and relevance hinges entirely on what good games come out for it. for the last 5 or so years There hasn't been a single Nintendo release I've wanted to play but maybe that could change. if more developers wanted to develop for Nintendo there might actually be some decent games and choice

The thing with the Wii U, Luke, was that you had to stay within range of the TV & console.  Now it seems like you can drive to grandma's house and keep playing.  Early rumours about the Wii U from back in like 2009 had this concept but it never game to fruition.

Agree about the cards, that's one of my favorite features. Portability could be nice, better graphics could be nice, third party support definitely nice. I'm excited but yes, we'll see what the specs look like and how sturdy the thing is in practice.

I'm not optimistic giving recent Nintendo endeavors
I actually started laughing when they are just now trying to market Splatoon as an esport, what a joke

Seems like parts would be too easy to lose for most.  Nintendo also would be foolish to not consider a strong battery life.

As luke said, games gonna be the biggest thing but I think most of us past 30 already moved on to ps4/xbox one or are starting to get out of gaming b/c work and family speedrunning and well game selection and the only thing I see that's gonna attract people is maybe those that need the portability.  The only game I even thought about getting a wiiu for was smash.

only thing i'm keen on future gaming wise is like madden (or a few other sports) VR atm.  Maybe it's simply because I'm at the point where I'd rather play forza over mario kart or a real shooter instead of cartoony splatoon and we're already at the point where the additional graphics don't matter that much on the traditional gaming methods.

I'm most excited about the merging of the Nintendo console and handheld libraries. The same copy of Smash and Mario in both places, Pokemon and Fire Emblem back on console, etc. As long as the transition is as easy as they make it look and the battery life is comparable to a 3DS, I'm very excited for this.

I still love Nintendo, but damn this thing is already a joke to me. Is anyone really waiting for another modular device between a Wii, wii U and a.. PS Vita? Yes, mobile gaming is getting more popular, but that doesn't mean people are willing to drag along another device around town just to play mario game #3269. The world has been past this point for literally 5-10 years already, welcome to the world of smartphones. Honestly, I really hoped they would stop with the gimicky consoles that have an interesting idea but always end up gathering dust on a shelve, never to be touched again. The Wii pulled that trick on a global scale and it was awesome ten years ago, but it won't work again. You'd think they would have learned their lesson with the Wii U...

Obviously there's going to be problems with parts getting lost, poor battery life, connection issues, horribly high priced replacement parts, you name it.

Also, I really don't get the whole concept of it. Gaming platforms should be open en easily accessible. Look at modern platforms such as steam, modding communities, how other consoles are programmed, Twitch, Discord, etc. Gaming is all about sharing and connectivity these days. It brings people together in new ways, especially if you believe in the future of VR this wont stop. It is certainly not about riding around town on a bike with clumspy modular nintendo parts falling out of your bag, which you physically have bring along to a friend because you want to play Mario Party 891 together.

Sure, Nintendo fans will buy it all again like religious zealots, but this hardware won't be picked up by any new generation gamers using modern gaming platforms, OR any gamer they've lost during PS3/PS4/X360/X1 generation for that matter. I truly wonder if that leaves enough people for it to become a succes.

I've played a zillion hours devided over the Gamecube, Wii, 3DS and if it counts...pokemon go. Only console I haven't touched is the Wii U.
