Political Discussion Thread: President Elect Donald Trump

It has now been a week since Donald Trump has won the electoral college. This thread will primarily be for political discussion, including not only the White House but also Congress and the Supreme Court. Feel free to share links from any site in regards to any politics, whether for fun or serious discussion. Please respect others opinions and refrain from petty insults. On to recent news:

Watching the 60 Minutes video gave a good insight into the future of a Trump presidency. He appears to be softening on a lot of policies he was fired up against during the campaign, primarily in regards to Obamacare and immigration. I do like the fact that he wants to keep the pre-existing conditions clause from Obamacare and to the fact that he claims that the supreme court decision on same sex marriage is law and he has no interest in selecting justices based off of this. That being said, some of Trumps nominees he has put forth will likely oppose same sex marriage and if we do see some of the older justices retire, we may end up seeing an overturning of same sex marriage.

What if, one day, there is a candidate who hates black people so much that he doesn’t go on a campaign stop to a traditionally black church in Detroit, talk about all of the contributions black people have made to America, promise to fight for black people, and say that his campaign is about opposing racism in all its forms? What if there’s a candidate who does something more like, say, go to a KKK meeting and say that black people are inferior and only whites are real Americans?

We might want to use words like “openly racist” or “openly white supremacist” to describe him. And at that point, nobody will listen, because we wasted “openly white supremacist” on the guy who tweets pictures of himself eating a taco on Cinco de Mayo while saying “I love Hispanics!”
