What would you get other Eliters gifts for Christmas?
« on: December 24, 2016, 01:19:58 am »
It's that time of the year where everyone celebrates Christmas. If you were a millionaire and had the opportunity to gift Eliters literally anything you want, what would you give them? Here's a short list I made:

Dan Parker:
- 1 10m Ethernet Cable
- PAL Console & PAL TV with GE/PD
- Box of Swiss Rolls

This year I randomly thought about PEZ dispensers on the Tuesday before Christmas and sent the following (via Amazon):

QB - Duke the Dog from Secret Life of Pets (he thinks dogs are awesome)
Youse - A penguin that looks like Tux, a mascot of a free software project
Ngamer - 12 emojis (he has to share two to Jimbo and Amber and a few others if he runs into other Eliters) (Ngamer doesn't like emoticons)
AlecBoy - 5 presidents (he loves presidents)

I think I sent QB something for Christmas a few years ago, too.  May have done some others but really can't remember right now.  Hard to remember what was Christmas vs birthday.

I consider myself a gift expert, so my choices here will reflect that.  You should always wrap a gift in wrapping, not in a bag, and you should (almost) never give a gift card or cash, unless the occasion calls for it.  In a case where you do give those things, they should be inside a greeting card, or sometimes, a book.  I will explain these examples as they come up.

Qweczol - Five 100 foot ethernet cables + "bitter apple" anti pet chewing spray, to prevent his bunny from destroying his ethernet cables.  Plus he's a good friend so I'd get him a little extra.  I know he's into sports so I might send him some old memorabilia I have lying around, which is actually very nice as a personalized gift.  I have for instance lying around a 1996-97 Washington Capitals media guide which is probably extremely rare or impossible to find and, with a nice inscription on the inside cover, would make a really cool gift addition.

Jono DSX - He is a fellow pop music fan like me, so over the course of the past few months, I would have learned more about his pop music vinyl collection and got him a record he doesn't have.  Perhaps Katy Perry - Teenage Dream or Ariana Grande - Dangerous Woman.  Even if he has those, I'd find one he doesn't have and get it for him.  The point is, you should be able to get a gift for anyone, even if they are "hard to buy for" simply by learning about them over the course of time.

Grav - Grav started this whole discussion by talking about how "hard he is to buy for" and how he simply asks his family for "cash."  "Being hard to get a gift for" is a virtue I consider even worse than just being a bad gift buyer.  But just to spite Grav, who already has a nice chess set, doesn't go outside or drive a car, or do anything aside from sit on his computer all day; I would get him a decent telescope.  Surely he would find use in this or at least be intrigued by it, and if he didn't use it, or didn't make an effort to use it beyond storing it in his closet until next Christmas, that'd be his fault, not mine.  This is of course, unless he already has as nice telescope, in which case I'd get him a heartrate monitor and a Bluetooth PCi card because I know he wants these things from talking to him recently.

Luke - Now that Twitch IRL allows more things to be streamed, I would get Luke a fairly large, buildable to scale model of the Sydney Opera House and a really cool 5000 or 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle in hopes he streams building these on Twitch around his kitchen table with his sister over the holidays.  What a great stream, and no longer bannable.

Ace - a lump of coal.

Glover - I will go against my usual advice here, but explain why.  I would get Glover $15 or $25 gift cards to; Kentucky Fried Chicken, Popeye's Louisiana Grill and Chic-Fil-A, because I know he would both use these, as well as come back with some hilariously deep south stories to share with us.  Giving three different chicken chains, as well as Popeye's Louisiana Grill, to a Kentucky native, and notably conservative Chic-Fil-A in the deep south, would likely result in some nonsensical, stereotypical tales to tell on stream while waiting for someone more relevant to stream.  And often, stories are the best gifts.  A good gift creates memories, which is why in a case like this, gift cards are an appropriate gift for someone like Glover.

Lockwood - Lockwood is notable for really getting into stuff once he gets into it at all, so some sort of bachelor style cookbooks might entice him to start to learn cooking and get really good at it over the course of a year or two.  Getting him obsessed over something like cooking would be extremely healthy and generate.

Karl - Karl might like the same gift as Lockwood; but if I couldn't really find a good cookbook in that style I'd just get him some Protein Powder or Indian-ordered Generic Cialis.

Wodahs - A GPS, a portable cell phone charger and a set of detailed roadmaps for the metropolitan areas of Washington DC, Minneapolis, San Franciso and Denver, just in case all else fails.

Flicker - Honestly he would probably be thrilled with some old, out of print packs of Magic the Gathering Cards from the dollar store.

Boss - Survivor DVD Box Set

Jimbo - I'd get him Packers tickets but he probably already has them for every game this season and next, so something like an Aaron Rodgers bobblehead or possibly a piece of Brett Favre Vikings memorabilia would be funny.

Alec - A Tim Horton's mug because it's both a nice, small gift but would troll him as he works there 40 hours/week.

Clemens - I wouldn't get him anything since he really couldn't care less about Christmas, but if I saw him in person I would install Discord on his PC and set it to "load on startup" which would essentially be a Christmas gift for all of the elite.

JustinDT - Ariana Grande concert t-shirt.

Illu - I'd probably just send Illu a bunch of books about various conspiracies and new age problems which would keep him occupied for a very long time.

Dan Parker - He's always spending time with his niece so I'd get them matching Paw Patrol stuffed animals.  Dan could give one to his niece and "uncle DP" would be the best uncle ever!

Jezz - At his age, Jezz would probably be more than content with a carton of cigarettes, especially if they were American ones that cost 1/10th of the Australian prince.

Door - Door is the kind of guy who just wants steam games, so I'd get him a new pair of hockey skates to encourage him to go to the local rink.

Icy - Icy is a very intelligent and thoughtful dude, so I'd send him a really nice abacus and globe of the world which he could put in his office beside his glass of scotch and fireplace.  Everyone could use some curios.

Mirrormage - Mirror is the case of a guy who you kind of lost touch with over time, but would be really happy and smile if you sent him an official FIFA 2018 Russia World Cup soccer ball.

Ogran - I'd send Ogran some cool piece of Canadiana, like maybe a really nice bottle of maple syrup or classic Canadian blanket would be cool gifts to send to Wales.

Greenounet - Probably the same thing as Ogran, it's always cool to give a piece of your country as a gift to someone internationally.

Austin - Twister (1996) Blu-ray Digital Remaster, and a National Geographic coffee table book of weather phenomenon pictures or something like that.

Birdie - a fancy suit so he would walk around Hollywood and people would think he's a star.

I think that's about it!  There are of course more eliters I'd get gifts for, but they don't check the boards regularly or aren't topics of discussion here atm.  The point is, a really good gift giver can overcome someone who is "hard to buy for."  And being "hard to buy for" is a very negative trait.  You can always, over the course of time, figure out what a person is like, and therefore what they would like as a gift.  It's never impossible for anyone.

Merry Christmas to everyone here and I wish for us all to share gay tidings of joy with their loved ones!
