Yo. I'm grinding for B2 Agent 23. Got this 24 dupe earlier but i got a backboost in the tape room. I reckon I lost time as the keycard guard would still off been in a good killing position hadn't I been backed. Just wondering if anyone could confirm this could of been 23 or point out things I could improve to get it. Also aware the final warp could of been a tenth saved

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aB91yWOHDH4&feature=youtu.be

Cheers.

First off, let me point out that Bunker 2 Agent 23 is one of the tightest times in Goldeneye. You need to turn hard and sharp at every corner. Your stairs before the tape room looked particularly weak. Also, you cannot expect to just go as fast as you can through the tape room and have the keycard guard be in a good position. One of the keys to the level is going through the tape room fast enough for 23 pace but without being too fast for the guard to be out of position. Other things that seemed slower than 23 pace were the keycard kill/pickup and warps. In addition to all that, 23 requires a rare boost. Good luck to you if you decide to continue playing the level.

ye Ive played a good few runs of this and know theres a sweet spot for the keycard guard. I know optimal line in the the tape room is just too quick. I was trying to say that I wasnt optimal in the tape room, got a back,  but the keycard guard was aleady past the t juction before i got there so the timing would of been pretty good. Obviously relying on him throwing me the key/klobbs after taking the turn. Also got the rare boost in the final corridor.

Thanks for the luck bud!

Just so you know, that boost is only rare on 23 pace

While I dig that you're willing to go for an insane WR, I don't think you quite grasp yet just how good it is. There's a reason only 4 of the best players ever have it. Here's a 0:24 to give you an idea of how good 0:23 is.

If you were to get it, you'd definitely become an instant legend.

Hey, I think that run was decent. I have 0:23. Here are some of my suggestions:

- You definitely do need to do tighter turns everywhere, especially at the beginning. Your turns are too slow everywhere.
- You need to warp the last door quicker (switch weapons maybe a tenth earlier) - I just read you are aware of this so it's fine (you probably got thrown off guard by the boost?)
- The tape room needs to be quicker (you were doing it alright but the backboost screwed you). You were there for too long and as a result you were too slow for the keycard guy.

Good luck. :) If you have any more runs you think are good post away!

Got a stuck on the jail guard, and turns too wide going into the big room.

That's my guess.

Hello all, it's me again. Trying to go after the Boring Four and looking for some feedback. Archives and Bunker 1 are still rough, but any feedback is helpful. Feel free to look at as many or as few as you'd like, any and all feedback is welcome.

Dam:
Managed to get five 54's so far (using 1.2 for reference). Goal is 53. I kind of timed them and these are the two fastest:
Fastest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2i4lDJijKI&index=4&list=UUMr1jC02qzVB0Ue_Zpe_qog
Next: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unAl8DG7tq8&index=5&list=UUMr1jC02qzVB0Ue_Zpe_qog
My lock shot technique is quite yolo but it seems to be working for me in general.

Runway:
First got some 24's without self-boosting just to get the movement down, then started work to get a 23 before trying to get 22. Still trying to get a 23, but does anyone have a tutorial or explanation for the 22 strat? The list of tutorials doesn't include it and I haven't been able to find it. Here's a handful of runs:
Without self-boosting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTMQyvbYm7k&index=2&list=UUMr1jC02qzVB0Ue_Zpe_qog
Back to Back (First one is better): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yAX1UoAkbA&list=UUMr1jC02qzVB0Ue_Zpe_qog&index=1
Best Boosts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3Okz3Mm8Rw&list=UUMr1jC02qzVB0Ue_Zpe_qog&index=3
My movement feels fine during non-boosting attempts but seems to just be all over the place when boosting.

Archives:
Aiming for 17 first and then 16. Still super rough, my bookshelf room leaves a lot to be desired, but whatever is mentioned will help improve this. I get stuck on the big door, I take too wide of a 'line' coming out into the big room, etc. Any advice is welcome here, but I know this needs practice to clean up the movement.
Current PB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsDJlfDSWtw&index=12&list=UUMr1jC02qzVB0Ue_Zpe_qog

Bunker 1:
Aiming for 18 and then 17. Way too late of a second pause, bumped the stairway, not the best lines, warp was slow, any advice appreciated here as well.
Current PB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-5Nt8EoZUo

Thanks anyone who helps, I appreciate it.

Your runs are pretty rough, enough that there's a substantial difference between them and the WR runs, particularly your Archives Agent PR. I'd suggest watching videos, studying them, and improving your movement as a whole. Once your runs are a lot cleaner it'll be more worthwhile to have them nitpicked for small errors.

Key hut movement - you're losing a lot here. I watched your video side by side with Boss's 0:22 (start yours at about 5.50 seconds, start his at about 0.5) and as you enter the hut you hit the door at the same time, but he exits and is getting boosted a lot sooner than you are. Even with your missed 3rd grenade I think you would get 0:22 with a better hut.

I hope this link works:

I didn't think I was losing that much in the hut.

To expand on that, pay attention to the approach to the key (my sa 22 as example):

I aim left of the key, so I can be in right strafe by the time I actually pick it up, making for a better line leaving (and no grinding on the table)

I see. I was taking a much wider angle when going back to the door to exit. I think I get what to do now. Thanks mate

Any thoughts on my Dam 54? I'm trying to get it down to 53. This was done on 1.2 but I've been trying to learn 2.2 for this to take it down more. I think I could just have a tighter line pre-gate and before the lock shot and that would do it but I'd like some input.

Hey Happens,

You're gonna want cleaner lines just about everywhere. Your lookup around the tunnel area is also a little off from what the modern strats are, so I suggest watching Karl's 52 or another recent Dam 53 (like my own) to get a better feeling of when to look up and how much. You also are a bit slow getting through the gate after the lock shot, try and hit b immediately after shooting to open it fast. In addition, you can open the gate right before the lock a little earlier to allow a cleaner line through it.

Good luck!

Yo yo.

Been playing Silo Agent today. Managed to cut 10 seconds off my time at the beginning of the sesh with this run:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F86edd57TAE&feature=youtu.be

I'm pretty happy with first half of the run but it fell away a bit after the 3rd room.
Any pointers welcome, cheers.

Hey all, been grinding for Runway A 22, here's one of my more solid 23's that I dug out.

https://youtu.be/mYulxb-kR-I

Might not be my best 23 but I think it's close to what I've generally been doing.

How does my key hut look in particular? I know that's a common issue.

On your first 3 nade throws, the last one shouldn't be thrown that far, as in don't look down as much as you did. I also think your hut nade could have been thrown a tad later. Movement looks good on this run, so keep that up.

I am using 2.2. If the hut and all looks good I'm wondering what the issue is for me now. Is my movement immediately after leaving the hut causing the time loss? I've had 6 boost runs going down the runway.

Another thing that caused me to lose time in the past that I didn't realize for a while, was that my controller wasn't fully cruise controlled, and/or I wasn't holding the stick all the way left/right. This causes time loss as well, cause me to get a few 23.0s when they should've been 22s, and I still don't have 22 because of that. So don't be like me, wasting 30 hours for nothing because of a simple fix which is often overlooked.

Flech, check this out

https://viewsync.net/watch?v=mYulxb-kR-I&t=10.42&v=jW9SUeyZ-iU&t=11.66&mode=solo

I synced my 22 vs your post, we are dead even through the hut and 1st boost. My hut isn't super godly which is why I chose this run, just to point out yes you can improve the hut but what you're doing now is not costing you 22.

Not sure if looking down vs up is faster, I started looking down after I had a few 6 boost 23's and figured I may be losing some frames by looking up. I think you're close though.

Holy shit, this is what I needed to see! Thanks for setting this up. Okay, this makes me think im not throwing the first set of nades fast enough, which throws everything off. I know Irie got a full look up 5:0 22 so thats not too big of an issue, but I've started looking down again anyway. Either way, I'm on the right track and really damn close by the look of things.

The quest for the former Boring Four continues, so what all needs to be improved for 17?

For 17 you shouldn't go behind the table to pickup the key, as it's a more direct line, and most people now will left strafe away from the table to the glass door. That and getting more boosts should do 17 for you.
Also, I remember Irie trying to slap Boris as he picked up the key, to make a slightly even better line to the door, if you want to try that. (Ironically he didn't end up slapping Boris on his 17)
Congrats on 18 though! You're PB'ing so fast it's scary.

If you want some actual feedback, it seems the biggest problem (as far as I can tell from this quality) is that you aren't timing the grenade throws properly. If you just throw them all up in the air, you won't get enough boosts to consistently get good runs. For anyone who knows how to throw the grenades, 23 is very easy. Read this post by Henrik (and maybe watch some videos) about the proper grenade timing. Remember that if you hold z, you cook the grenade before throwing it by letting go of z.

For 23, I would throw the grenades down and worry more about your lines.
once you get out the hut, start priming and do a 4-count in your head, then throw directly below yourself.
You should be able to get 3 self-boosts down the runway that way (you can time an early boost by throwing a nade before the hut, just watch a 22)
3 boosts with a clean hut and decent line down the runway is easy 23.

My suggestion is to play the level with only throwing a grenade at the key hut guards (to reduce plane blowup), and just nailing the lines. You can get 24 relatively easily without any boosts at all, and practicing like this will make 23 significantly easier.

Yo! I got this Caverns 1:02 awhile back, and have questioned how fast it was. 4:0 but 2 of them were on corners which I still took pretty well, but I am not quite sure how much time they saved. Clean run besides that, really fast beginning. I am not sure If I am losing any significant time on the spiral, this one seems decent?
INTRIGUE!! Did I just barely fluke a 102 that should've taken longer, or could better boosts have resulted in a S K I P
Well thanks to Grav's tutorial for tech-illiterate eliters, I now have an answer.
The first frame I took was right when the camera jolts downwards, and the last right as I warped into the elevator. (Hopefully these are the right frames?)
The result!?
102.02
Should I go for 1:01? Will box boost implementation aid this journey?
lemme know

Roast me, mates. Trying to improve my Dam SA. Only been playing the level for a few days. I know this is a pretty sloppy run but I'm not sure what areas to focus on to improve.

-Your first line was way off; aim for the end of the barricade, which is where you're going. The other barricades could have been tighter too.
-You got a nasty backboost and a guard stuck through the tunnel. I also recommend learning Ogran's lookup strategy, or at least running through with planar view so you get faster gates. Your gate only looked fast since you lost like half a second to the guard.
-Try to setup your aim for the first alarm earlier so you can destroy it without breaking full speed.
-You went super wide towards the lock. I suggest just shooting it in strafe, but if you want to be safe, approach it as you would normally and turn facing forward just before reaching it. Turning early while you're still not realistically able to hit it will cost you time in slower movement.
-Press B on the gate faster. Always assume you succeeded in the lock shot, because if you didn't your run is already dead. No need to stop and check.
-Once you reach the corner to the towers, start moving forward, rather than doing a weird strafing zigzag. While strafing is a faster movement option, there are times where just running forward is faster. This is such a time.
-For the second tower alarm, you backed up way too far. The purpose of doing so is so you're closer to the next corner as you leave, so what you did is counter-productive. I suggest standing in place and shooting the alarm until it's destroyed before moving. Once you're better at the level, you can use backing up to save extra tenths.

You've got a long way to go on the level, but that also means new PRs should come relatively quickly. I highly recommend watching some 1:17s and 1:18s. Keep going!

Thanks Icy! The biggest thing I wasn't sure about was how to approach the alarms and when I should be backing up (I read that in a guide somewhere I'm pretty sure). For now I'll work on setting up my first alarm and getting the left strafe lock shot, then after that I'll try to get the second part of the level down.

Looks pretty damn good honestly. Most people turn and do left strafe at the end, I've heard it said it's less lag that way.

The biggest issue for you I think is your Nat door, you get really close to it when you don't need to. I'm not the best to point you towards a good example or explain how to do it, but that's definitely where I see your time loss.

1) Too close to Nat door. Try to crank the analog to get it open from further away.
2) Don't swap strafes at the end - loses time to swap strafes. Try to keep left strafe along the railing, c-up the glass shots, go back to left strafe out the window.

Hey guys was just doing some Archives runs and was wondering, is this boost out of the first room an optimal/rare boost or did I only get it because I was too slow/taking too wide of turns?

Usually only happens when you're slow but in this case I think it was more because you grinded on the table and picked up the ammo, which alerted the guard early. Looked pretty fast to me.
