New Controller question
« on: July 13, 2017, 09:09:15 pm »
Alright so I had to order a new controller on ebay because the old one was junk and now Im not sure if this joystick is some after market hyper sensitive one or what. And since I figured all my friends here at the-elite would have some insight on this I figured I'd ask. So on the ad it said 9 out of 10 tightness and it is but it also seems overexaggerated. I guess what im trying to ask is when you guys buy a new controller how does it feel for you. Does it play smoothly or are you focusing on not over aiming? And just a little reference point for me anyway on control when you pick up the mines then left strafe into and through the silver crate room: On my old controller absoulte junk cant turn in left srafe at all without running into that first crate on the right. New controller turns so good if I dont focus on over turning I will cut straight into the crates on the left. Any insight from you guys would be most appreciated. Thanks

nah just come over to my house... should be fun. And I know its a weird question for answering but it just seems overly responsive to me. Wondering if anyone else can shed some light on this if they got used to playing with a controller that was junk

If you're buying on eBay, look for the word "genuine", or the part-number "NUS-005" on the controller, which indicates it's a Nintendo manufactured part.

Well unfortunately I cant unscrew the screws for the new controller at all which is weird but I can take apart my older one and couldnt find the part number nus-005. But im thinking it is an original joystick and will just take some getting used to. Its just seems tougher to aim with while taking sharp corners has become much easier. Wondering if any one else has experienced the same thing as well when switching to a newer controller. Thanks anyways though

Seems like it could be a third party replacement stick; those can be bad.

A possible option is the competition pro controller, just take out the turbo buttons though. I will be getting one in less than a week because I'm in Europe on vacation. Shipping could be bad because most of them are in the UK. It was used by Ogran for Streets so it definitely is a solid controller and he says the sticks are much more durable.

What you're saying is you got a new controller and the stick is amazing, which makes it tough to control Bond in GE. This happens whenever you change controllers; you have to get used to the new one. Just break it in with abusive levels like facility or archives and you'll get used to it in no time.

Can you upload images of the controller? Multiple angles with good lighting and focus. I could tell you right away if it's OEM or not.

Your post was enough to get me to resurrect the Game Rage Archives.

Page 8 has some intense photos. Pages 5 and 7 also have some photos of solid rage.

hahaha

"Lately I'll just slap the controller out of my hand. It's less damaging than throwing it on the ground, and I get to hit something. I would recommend this to anyone."

Actually I've got a question about greasing your control stick. Has anyone ran into the problem were after greasing the stick it will tend to want to hold up or down on its own? Im using white lithium grease btw

It sounds like your controller may be haunted.
Nah but if it's holding a direction by itself after you take it apart and put it back together, you probably messed up setting the 2 black thingies (technical term), open it back up and try again.

haha yeah that piece is haunted for sure lol. A little more info on this controller the joystick didnt start doing that till after I threw it once and then it would just always be holding up. I couldnt believe it actually because I was doing my best to make sure not to break it in game rage fashion but it happened anyway. Anyway like I think I said before the screws to take the back of the controller would not unscrew what so ever so i basically smashed it open to get the stick out. Decided to try and grease it and what not and put it into another controller that had a bad (old) stick. It works good for about 15-20 minutes then always starts to hold up or down again. After like the 4th time taking it apart and putting it back together I said fuck it and will wait for my new controller which should be here by tuesday the latest. Which is alright I guess because all the capture stuff I need should be in around that time anyway.

I have a confession:

I purchased a 3rd party n64 controller a couple weeks ago, $20, and was wtf-pwned when I got home and realized the stick was WAAAAAAAAAAAAY NOOOOOOOOOOOT GOOOOOOOOOOD. In other words, more than just "too sensitive," it was nowhere true to the real deal.

I gave it a few chances, being in the denial as I was, but it never improved even slightly. Now, I never threw the controller, but last night my patience expired, and in one frustrated yank, I plucked the damn stick clean off the controller... Sure did prove to me how bamboozled I was to begin with.

My question is this: Why all these 3rd party sticks that pretend to be legit? It's 2017, and my best bet for a controller to enjoy my console NEED BE a used original, which is likely to priced too highly?

You can get OEM controllers with 9/10 sticks from Japan on eBay for $40

If I'd stop being lazy and start getting them ready I ship out REALLY good OEM controllers to eliters for $20.
I'll start it back up here in a couple weeks when I'm done moving all my stuff back into the basement after my remodel.
There's a topic with a list of players on it somewhere on the boards. If we can find and resurrect it I can start getting controllers out.

If you're buy bcaa powders on eBay, look for the word "genuine", or the part-number "NUS-005" on the controller, which indicates it's a Nintendo manufactured part.

I've seen a few fakes with the word genuine on them too. Sneaky scammers.

If it's from Japan you'll almost never get scammed and the products will almost always be in good or better condition, in my experience
