Luke and I both think the ban on name changes on the Elite Discord server is unfair and a decision that was made precipitously, especially since it was done without a community vote. You know there is a problem when one of the most well-liked Eliters leaves the server and so, I'm not really looking for a "whichever option wins, wins" but at the very least a compromise to get Luke back.

What do you mates suggest be done? I recommend bringing the feature back and only allowing it to be used sparingly. There are only like 3 Eliters who even use this feature so I'm not sure why there is so much "confusion" especially when we stick to our ranking colors as well.

I'm really glad you are worried about the reasons Luke leaves discord now. It's definitely a genuine sense of caring for others and not selfish opportunism.

Anyway luke is entitled to whatever opinion, as are you. I personally think discord names should have something that obviously tips off who you are. It doesn't have to be your literal name imo.

Yeah as long as I have a way of knowing who the hell im talking to. I gave up guessing so I just ignore half the people in discord. Also makes it difficult to know if it is a new person or just someone changing their name. I've been tempted to change my name to someone who changes their name often and change my picture to mirror theirs and just spam shit. But I won't stoop down to that level.
Also is there a way to see who they actually are even with their fake names?

I proposed a comprise earlier on Discord, and I'm going to add it to the poll options and reset the vote count (posting the current vote count for transparency.)


Allow full/unlimited SERVER nicknaming on The-Elite server, as long as the user maintains a DISCORD username (global, not server-specific) that is identifiable by your average Eliter. This would basically mean that we would go back to how things were, except people would have to actually start using the nickname feature that was designed to prevent this entire unnecessary drama. If people won't do that, I'll just start enforcing nicknames on those individuals.

Yes, name changes should be allowed. 4 (23.5%)
Yes, name changes should be allowed but only sparingly (once a week, etc) 3 (17.6%)
No, name changes shouldn't be allowed. 8 (47.1%)
Name changes don't really bother me. 2 (11.8%)

There are only so many ways you can write `IrnNgarner`...but I don't think SZ ever found them all.

If I can click on someone's username and find out who they are, it benefits them more than me. If I click on an unknown name and the popup doesn't help me at all, I'll just assume they're nobody important.

If I really want to be `IrnNgarner` for an afternoon and I can't just change my displayed name, I'll just make a free account and join the free-to-join chat and it won't really matter that I couldn't change the displayed name I had.

On the boards the rule is if you've never changed your name you can stick with it, but if you're going to be playing games with it, we have the mods fill in your well known alias to appear next to each post so readers will know who you are.  Alternate accounts are strongly discouraged.

I was never against name changes. I just didn't want it to be acceptable for people to create troll names to bully other people. Though it's irrelevant now as I won't use the discord so my opinion should not be considered.

Agreed. Unfortunately, often when you give people any sort of power they'll eventually use it, wether there was an actual need for it or not.

I personally think changing your name often is very childish but w/e people should be allowed to do it.
