It's that time of the year again! 2017 was shaping out to be the worst year in terms of untieds achieved, but an insane December completely switched that! With a total of 12 untieds, half of which were achieved in the month of December, the streak of the game having at least 10 untieds a year since 1997 is STILL going! Very impressive considering how "maxed" the game has become two decades later. Overall 13 seconds were cut (3 more than that of 2016!), including 3 on Runway 00 Agent which saw the most cut. Hundreds of players also lost a world record between Dam 0:53 and Archives 0:16, when Karl used his 150+ IQ clever analysis and smart grinding techniques to nail both 0:52 and 0:15 respectively.

2017 brief reflection:

Not a single person predicted Dam Agent 0:52, but a handful of players correctly predicted Archives 0:15, although they probably thought Wodahs or Gus would be the one to achieve it instead of Karl. Goose was the only player to predict a complete Archives sweep of 0:15/0:53/0:53. Apart from Grav & Goose who correctly predicted Runway 0:29, everyone else predicted 0:30, probably to perpetuate the Runway 0:30 meme. Silo was another hot level, where almost predicted 0:59 or 1:07. It's actually a shame how 0:59 didn't happen, but I'm certainly everyone will vote for it this year given how close Marc has been - he surely would have gotten it had he played earlier or for longer. Goose made an insane prediction of Ace landing on Dam 1:54 from a new strategy. Although I only managed to tie the WR, the new strat prediction was incredible. Egypt 0:44, S2 0:46 and S1 00A 1:47 were some common predictions which never happened, although some players did come close. Alec is the only one to have posted a guess for total WR count - 158 vs the 211 WRs that actually happened. Not too bad - the WR count will definitely be lower now that 0:53 and 0:16 have been wiped out.

Karl is 5th because he pwns a lot of GE this year. Swiss also plays quite a bit and passes Boss just before new year. Grav gets 1:01 Bunker 1 once he plays the level after Surface 2, and quickly gets the WR. He figures out some strat to get Boris to run to the MF room and the 1:01 happens shortly after. Karl may get the 0:44 untied sweep, but I think it's a lot of effort and he probably just gets the Agent one. Ace doesn't really play much and gets passed by Luke who gets a bunch of hot records, including an untied on Frigate 00 Agent. Sammy R fails the first ever Statue 00 Agent 2:17. Luke dabbles with the R-lean strat on B2, but quits after finding it too annoying. Henrik ties Train 1:49 at the beginning of the year, but the 0:57 is still safe. Caverns 1:01 becomes a 3-liner and Runway SA 0:22 a 4-liner. Depot 0:23 a 2-liner. Luke P's Frig 0:58 turns out to be a fake. 99 total WRs achieved.

Predictions:

Marc Rutzou has a "disappointing" year at least by Marc Rutzou standards, only able to achieve Silo Agent 0:59; barely, after an over 100 hour grind.  He does get an insane Dam 00 Agent 1:53 which doesn't take too long after 1:54.  He does not nip at Train Agent 0:56 and 0:57 ends the year tied (by HN.)

Karl Jobst shoots up the rankings, untying Egypt Agent 0:44.  Bunker 1 Agent 0:16 just doesn't want to give, though.

Ace refuses to play or stream until Karl is nipping at him and once he does, he unties all of Facility.  He may not get the sweep, as 42 Agent or 51 SA might get tied before the sweep is complete.  Ace cleans up enough degenerate times to remain #1.

Calle W nails his Surface 1 00 Agent 1:47 on a cooked 13:0 run where he does a self boost with under 1 bar and ends with ghost health, while a klobb guard is shooting at him during the GL shot.  His heart rate shoots to 170 at the end.

David Clemens stays ahead of Marc with a few assorted WRs, as well as untying Bunker 2 00 Agent.

Goose achieves Depot 00 Agent 0:46 after an over 100 hour grind on stream, but the hold during the ammo dump is so insane that people start to believe in 0:45.

Swiss passes Goose for a moment, but his ever decreasing activity allows Goose to re-pass once he gets PAL going.

Jonathon Hotinski nips into the Top 10 partly due to Jimbo's inactivity, and partly due to playing in hopes of a Kapap 4, but opting against making it, giving him more time to play.

Silo 00 Agent 1:20 or lower is untied by one of Ace, Goose or Marc.

Frigate 00 Agent 1:04 happens on a truly shocking run.  If it is streamed with voice and webcam, it becomes the most viewed Goldeneye speedrun of 2018.

Surface 2 Agent 0:46 happens likely by one of Grav, Mirror or Illu, but possibly another.

A cooker goes hard on Caverns 00 Agent and finds some small innovations.  They get 1:28.

Someone unties Aztec Agent 1:23... could be any of Luke, Ace, Jono, Clem, Marc, Eise, Wodahs... the list is endless.  If it's Luke, he may also go for Secret Agent 1:29 and achieve that.

Bryan Bosshardt shocks the entire universe with a time which is so insane, I can't even predict it in my Sylvester Tip.

There are 15 UWRs and 137 total WRs achieved in 2018.
