N64 mini
« on: October 01, 2018, 03:15:22 pm »
Hi guys,

The past few days I've seen an increasing amount of activity and news posts about the possible release of the N64 Mini. I was just wondering what others thoughts on this were as it could mean we could see the release of GE and PD in a new, official format.
What could this release mean for the community and how we speedrun our beloved games?

It would mean that we would create a new rankings system for the releases on N64 mini (if they were released at all, GE is basically in copyright purgatory), and it would likely take the-elite administration team, currently hampered by Thingy (why does he still hang around here at all?), roughly 6-7 years to implement the rankings system.

it's a no-brainer that since these mini consoles are emulators, they shouldn't be ranked with original hardware, so when/if it comes out, it should be made extra clear before submitting times or joining the rankings that the N64 mini is not allowed on these rankings to prevent this, also I'm not sure if it would be worth making a separate N64 mini rankings, since there just might be little or short interest in it

also I think it'll be likely that only PD would be released because of copyright issues with GE, but who knows what will happen

You won't see GE or PD on the N64 mini as the licenses are owned by Rare/Microsoft even Activision for GE. So forget about it, this is why the only Rare games you see on the VC are Donkey Kong and OG licenses by Nintendo.

This. Hence why the other PD releases were on XBox.

Easily the biggest thing that could come from them for the elite is the controllers. They will be first-party Nintendo made, could be in prime condition to play GE/PD with.

Since 4p multiplayer was a big part of the console, it's likely the controllers would be available on their own, and it probably won't escape Nintendo's notice that their original controllers are becoming sought after.
