Strange Frigate occurance
« on: January 02, 2019, 12:06:11 am »
Greetings, very casual speedrunner here

Was just mucking around on frigate agent (PAL) learning the bug throw and such, but something strange that I've never seen before on any videos or during gameplay happened. I don't own a capture card so have no proof but was interested to see if this was something anyone else had experienced before.

On a typical run, I got to this point of the level

However instead of seeing the guard and having a closed door to his left, in fact there was no guard there and the door to his right was open, meaning I didn't have to waste time killing the guard and opening that door to access to rooms where the hostages are held.

Is this a somewhat common or understood phenomenon (haven't seen it on any 23 videos or had it happen to me before)?

I didn't do anything special or different when beginning the run so not sure how it happened.

EDIT: Well it happened again about 2 mins after posting this - so I assume it's somewhat common, has anyone tried to exploit this for 22? Seems like it would save some time

This happens because the guard can see you through the walls if you're in a certain spot and will come running for you, but his pathfinding is fucked so he ends up trying to go around the boat. It's pretty common, but one always gets there on a fast 22/23 start before the guard leaves his spot, so this can't be utilized for that. However, this is used for the DLTK record, seen here:
