anyways another video, with the help of Icy and some cool glitches I was able to go out of bounds in the lobby and die, and then get an endscreen of the last level I played, then crash when I pressed start

this probably isn't useful but a really cool glitch nonetheless

messed around with this a bit and it seems the same on japanese version. the game keeps track of whatever level you last selected in the solo mission menu and displays that endscreen, doesnt matter if you actually played that level, defaulting to defection agent if you do the glitch straight from power on. also there's an empty objectives display when you scroll the endscreen left or right, although the game can sometimes just freeze if you scroll to objectives, not sure why it does or doesnt. seems like the game runs an invisible timer when you start in the institute and displays that upon death, probably the same timer used for gadget/holo/range training. also found it interesting that after you die and press start, the game "resets" but you can skip more of the intro and are kept on the same agent file. cool stuff.

It was suggested to me to try some speedruns in which the goal is to die in the CI lobby and use the "default" endscreen as a timer. Pretty fun run that includes a couple first try pause tricks, boosting with a box, small precision movement, and getting a quick warp and death.

I had 1:26, then 1:23, 1:21, 1:17 and dupes, 1:16 and dupes, then skipped to this run.

Tried walking around that spot with 0 collision but found nothing. The Setup Editor also shows this part of the floor as defined by one big quad, i.e. its unlikely that there are small gaps in it.

In other words, this is probably not related to the infiltration glitch, and I have no clue how this might have happened (more likely to be bombspy related i guess, I had a wierd drugspy OoB on Air Base once).

You were a bit slow exiting the building after going out of bounds, and also didn't get the fastest fall speed. I noticed that you seem to be unducking by pressing R twice pretty slowly. Compare this with my 5, I press R twice in very quick succession so you only see the crosshair change once:

Also pay attention to the timer as you pass the catwalk outside. 4.6x seconds vs 3.8x. This is mainly due to fall speed and is where you can gain enough time to get to 5.

For some reason, I find that if I try to uncrouch any faster I never make it oob, but I should have noticed I wasn't getting the fastest fall speed. Do you have any tips for how to make it out uncrouching that fast?

Thank you very much, I've figured it out now. Turns out that uncrouching faster allows/requires you to hug the corner more, and the more you hug the corner the more likely you are to get full fall speed. Turning wide like I did makes you fall slower I think because of level geometry.

Super fast War SA run with the open door strategy.

I reached the last doors at 41.13 with Skedars opening both, almost identically to Karl's untied. Mind you though if you're unfamiliar with this strategy, I had exceptionally good luck in this run, and this is not at all typical (most runs to the door are in the 42s), and I left the 1st King area very early, whereas I usually leave around 27.00 on the timer. This is some proof that it is possible to get the WR with it though, but the luck is far harder to get in exchange for requiring far less skill (particularly not needing to self-boost).

I strongly recommend using this for 0:46 or worse. Kill the first and fifth (first respawn) Skedar, and leave the corner at 27.00ish or sooner if you want to risk the success of the run. Open first doors aren't necessary and I honestly prefer them closed since opening it yourself tends to keep it open on the way out more often, but if you're too slow, the respawn will appear on the floor instead of the bridge. For open first doors, I usually pause buffer at the corner. The rest is straight-forward and easy to understand. It also works on PA and LTK.

Seems like this isn't commonly known, so I wanted to make a video to show it off. Elvis will occasionally give you the AR34 faster than normal, which makes the hangar start sooner too. It's rare and not understood why it happens.

Maybe Henrik could take a look into the scripting for it? :v

It seems that the timer starts as soon as Elvis gets line of sight to Joanna, and not when "Good to see you" appears. He then runs to her, but if the timer has reached 1 second before he gets there, it will be reset. This timer is later used to determine when you get the AR33, after 3 seconds has passed. So my guess it that the timer is normally reset once. Judging from your video, it takes almost exactly a second to reach Elvis?

Edit: I knew from before that position updates in PD happens less frequently when you unload a character, but apparently this happens with the timer as well. You can get the AR33 like 2 tenths earlier simply by looking at Elvis rather than running away :p (Depends alot on lag though, I could get it just as quick with lookdown) And there's a really good chance that this applies to all other NPC's with timers in the game as well...

Edit2: I can confirm that its pretty hard to make the 1 second cycle, so we should expect it to reset once on most runs. Hopefully there's a way to manipulate this somehow to avoid it.


Generating lag by switching weapons just as the elevator door opens to delay the timer start works somewhat often on emulator. Not sure if there's enough lag on console to make it work there though. Worth a try I guess. Hi-res and stuff might be helpful too.

So technically because of the difficulty to reach Elvis in time, you could instead sandbag your pace to catch him at the end of the 2nd cycle and still possibly save a wee bit? Better yet if we can just catch the 1st cycle, we could consistently get fast AR34s and save time in the hangar every run.

So I tried some more attempts with zigzagging towards Elvis and I can get fast AR34s pretty consistently now, but of course by sandbagging up to Elvis, I'm only gaining back the time lost (still on the same cycle).

Because the timing is so tight, you're almost certain to be meeting Elvis on the 58th or 59th frame of the 60-frame cycle, so if you do indeed get fast AR34 under normal circumstances, you're saving nearly a full second in the hangar! Pretty cool!

You can start turning earlier, but it makes it harder to actually land on the console, and doesn't save any time. The problem is that you're limited not by having to turn, but by being able to actually throw the mine. I'm holding z the entire time from when I land on the console, so I throw it as soon as possible. You can see that I have plenty of time to turn around before I can start throwing. Taking the mine out any earlier in mid air makes it so you can't land on the console at all (you have to pause to take it out past a certain point, it's hard to describe). Because of this, although you can land on the console around 1.5 or so seconds faster than with the old ending, you only save maybe 0.5, because the mine takes an extra second to throw, it seems.

Edit: You could theoretically avoid this by warping with the ECM, as Ace does in his 20, but I was unable to both do this and get a good turn out of the building, because the pause makes it hard to tell when you will actually warp out. You need a very good reaction, almost preemptive, to turn correctly once you warp. Also, this switching would probably lose a bit of time on the warp, and make it more inconsistent (ECM lags less than Falcon, I think). Also, because of the whole turning thing, it's unlikely the time saved would really matter much. 17 seems to be most likely the way I'm doing it, so I'll continue with this.

This hurt. Almost certainly the fastest Defection SA run in history. I think I paused for the mine too early, and my angle was a bit off on the final turn. .82 faster to the warp than my 18.2.

Achieved both of these a while ago but forgot to upload.

If you're wondering about the weird movement at the end of the latter run, no, this is not nerves. I've played the level for too long to be nervous, especially on a kinda mediocre pace like this. What happened is I landed in a weird section of wall to the left of the computer, and tried to get out as quickly as possible. The problem with this is that the computer has a small area to stand on and basically ice physics, so I stumble a bit trying to stay on. After landing in the wall like that, any potential for 17 was probably gone anyway.

Did this as a quick joke, only using the Laptop Gun cheat. I actually discovered a few weird things about The Duel doing this.

1. If you throw the sentry gun on the frame the game tries to start the next section, it creates an explosion where you were when you tried to throw, but you still do the throw once you gain control again.

2. There seems to be an invisible wall somewhere on the opposite side you start from; if you throw the sentry gun on the opposite wall it won't be able to shoot Jon/Trent. This is why I throw is on the side wall.

And before you ask, I believe 2 is not possible. The laptop gun doesn't come out fast enough to kill the first guard sub 3, and if you kill him with the Falcon there doesn't seem to be enough time to pull out the laptop gun and deploy it before the Jonathan section starts.

Oh wow, I hadn't considered using the x-ray like that. I think it probably saves time over my ending too. I might redo this for 14 later.

Funny how I hadn't seen this video. Like I said, I was inspired by a really old 19 by Jugador, but I hadn't bothered looking around for faster runs.

This is a Chicago 0:14 done with the slow motion cheat, i picked up the mine at 10.30 the end could have been a little bit faster but the robot is very troll on slow motion and it's rare to get a completion. I had to climb a bit slowly on purpose otherwise i was spotted by the guards before i could detonate the mine

I have some questions about Chicago: What's the best system to use if someone is going for 0:14? NTSC or JAP? also PAL doesn't seem to be disadvantaged on Chicago.
I would also like to know on what decimal Clemens picked up the mine on his 0:14 On the Chicago 0:15 guide topic: https://forums.the-elite.net/index.php?topic=20699.msg439317#msg439317 Icy wrote that Clemens picked up the mine at 10.33, but i don't know how he did find that because even on the original 0:14 vid that has a slightly better quality we can't see on what decimal the mine is picked up.

Jap might technically be easier than NTSC because of slightly reduced lag, but 14 has been proven possible on NTSC, so take that as you will.

10.33 was what Clemens himself claimed the pickup was, either from memory or being able to view the decimal on the actual tape. He claims that this was the fastest case pickup he had ever gotten, and then he had a perfect ending afterwards.

I think you underestimate how hard 14 really is though. It is a 100s of hours grind for even a 10/10 OCJ player like 2010 Clemens. If you really want to go for 14, be prepared to pour 1000s of hours into it, with very little to show for your efforts. There is almost certainly, I would guess, less than 10 frames of leniency for 14 in regular speed. 14 in slow motion is not very difficult.

MW i don't underestimate 0:14 i know how insane it is and that getting 0:14 with the slow motion cheat is useless. I really don't think i will ever get this time but when i heard that Karl was going to do some attempts, i wanted to play this level again and maybe find a way to save time somewhere.

On this run i pressed "A" twice as i was picking up the mine as usual and then i paused and selected the mine once again, so the mine was equipped earlier and i could throw it earlier, it's harder to detonate the mine because you have to press "A" to equip the mine once again just after you threw it, and then A+B to detonate it. I think the pause loses times and also the game is more laggy than usual when i detonate the mine.

You gotta shoot at the door near mines from time to time during the protect. At the very least, you need to do a few more shots at that door just before Jon is done with explosives.

As we all know, Chicago 0:14 had some recording issues, but the thing that really shocked me was how fast the run was when i compared it to some 0:15 pace runs. Knowing that the run is a ~14.95, when i compare it to a ~15.5 run it would be like 2 sec faster. So the run is really speeded up.


So i filmed the 0:14 with my webcam and i slowed down the video to put the run in real speed.

Unfortunately i didn't do a really good work, the run is even less watchable, so if anyone want to make this proprely please do it, and use this vid, the quality is slightly better:

That probably doesn't make the run more watchable but at least the run is at his real speed.
