Why hasn't that Defense strat been used before? :P And does it indeed save 5+ seconds? (I guess it's pretty obvious it should).

I'm pretty positive this guy is legit, he seems very updated on strat and stuff(even more updated than us xD), his vids are indeed new material, quality and the way the runs are played indicates it's not TAS(it's possible to create a run like that with tas but it'd require a N64 controller attached to PC, but if that was the case the graphics would still look TAS'ish and not captured from VHS/DVD player). So yeah, i can't think of much else that would make him seem less legit than any player here. Don't really know why he would be either, All information about how to get good is available here and you don't need to be social to be a good player :P

This guy seems very skilled as well, not sure if he could beat Rayan but close at least.

Well, I can explain why that strat hasn't been used before: it's damn hard!

You need to kill the two guards without killing the hostages (with explosives, needless to say, that's very hard, especially considering the positions of those hostages). I can imagine killing the guard at the far right by an explosion in the far right corner (from the perspective of looking into the room facing the door when entering), without killing the hostage. I'm not too sure how he saved that other hostage, because that one is in the middle of the room and you basically need an explosion close to the left wall or something. How can you even get that done? Also, placing those grenades accurately enough when bouncing them on the ceiling is very very difficult. Nevertheless, it appears it can be done. Even if you succeed however, you need to be lucky that the guards survive in the firing range (which is screwed enough doing it the normal way). You need to be lucky the skedar doesn't call the lift down again. All these factors are a huge filter on the run as performed by this guy. That's why it has never been used before, but maybe it's not as hard as I think it is and with some practice you can do it consistently.

on top of that, let me give you all a clear discription of the situation we have here. Henrik, you need to understand that there is all reason to be at least skeptical, or careful with this video.

situation:

you live in Ireland, you speedrun PD for years and years (you don't get those skills for playing 1 month). You certainly know of this community, because by the look of the strategies he uses, well lets just say you can't figure that all out on your own. Those strategies evolved after years of players going over that stage again and again. Yet, you make zero efforts to make contact with ANYONE in this community, who are in fact, the only ones that would even care or be able to acknowledge the insanity of this run.

You get the strats, and you even buy a NTSC console + cartridge + capture system, to be able to do this. Remember, Ireland is a PAL country. So he must have searched the internet, looking for a place to buy and ship over a NSTC console. You don't just buy this because you are a fan of the game/admirer, and you want to own the NTSC version just because some random elevator goes 17% faster.

You play and play, and as Max already described, you get an INSANE world record. a FIVE second untied world record. Executed a la Rayan I. style, etc. Insane accuracy, etc, you name it.

AND ALL YOU DO IS PUT IT ON YOUTUBE? The guy had ONE subscriber by the time this video was released (Rick van Stralen).

I collect tons of games without even speed running them. There are collectors who have 8 different types of NTSC's and living in PALLAND, like one of every transparent color and stuff.

I was really impressed by that video. I watched 33 and 6 as well and all seems legit to me. DVD captured material often looks more smoother then TAS material. Most, if not all N64 games looks really weird on emulator. Get him on the ranks NOW!

I'll send him a Japanese GE so he can untie Clemens. Oh, I'm sorry, Caverns I mean.

You're so naive, I'm sure there are plenty ways to make a run look that legit. I think his strafing looks too good for a normal player..every turn is tight, every door entry is smooth, etc. For the same reasons Carathorn said, he must be a fake. Why would someone get a 5 sec untied and then name it "my movie 3" or whatever...its just not normal.

There is a video which doesn't look sketchy at all, giving a usable strat that got 1:37. It doesn't appear consoled and the guy has followed the elite for some time. Yeah, that's fake...

As Red Bull said (not sure how much I really want to buy into what he says since he told me Chicago SA was hard and that I would never get Investigation A 127), these runs are just a bit too convenient for someone who isnt even a part of the Elite. When i watch the runs, I think to myself "wow, this guy is amazing" and they feel real, but when I think about how he never even said anything about it to the Elite or anyone in the Elite (for someone who clearly has tons of knowledge on these strats), it just seems too good to be true.

I am guessing it is this Rock Von Stralen guy..I dont know him, but he seemed be about the only person who knew this guy when he posted the link...and therefor is most likely to be "Dennis Lucid"

Thats just my current guess.

I said Chicago was hard indeed IMO (which means in my opinion). But anyway, it's hard to tell if it's fake or not just by watching a youtube vid, and for now I don't really see the point in discussing it as he probably won't even bother with joining the-elite.

Wow you guys were discussing this thing on this topic already haha, I was posting on the other one. I totally agree with Clemens here, even though he looks skilled and his runs looks smooth (as I said on the other topic, only that Def 33 looked a little bit suspect at some points but whatever). I'd guess one of the following four options:

1. he's just a regular legit guy and we're just dumb because we believe that all the best players should post here or whatever
2. he's got insane skills but he uses something very sneaky to help him when performing these runs
3. he's mentally retarded and all he can do on his life is play PD for his own pride or whatever, so 100% legit, but 1000% loser
4. he's another disguise of Karl, after the "Rayan I." one. Come on, first a 9 yr old kid from Paquistan and now an Irish guy that never talked to us?

I'd go with 4. Or 2.

Days ago I was messing around with cheats and using firsight i could get air base base door and rescue second lab opened, but looks like it doesnt help anything.

in air base you still have to pick up the disguise and the time you saving getting the door open you waste doing the shot.

in rescue you still need to go first lab to get a keycard so you can only get a door opened it shouldnt save much time. i yet tried to complete obj 5 before obj 4 to see if something happen but you really need to go see elvis for the mission to complete.

well it is with cheats so maybe the only interested is Matt :P

I had a dream today that someone found out how to destroy those things on Deep Sea NTSC, the same way as PAL. It was weird, there was this big place that doesn't exist on the real level, that you'd aim at the very top of the room and could complete the objective.

I've always been curious about that Deep Sea strat, is the spot we use the absolute closest spot to those canisters? Are we so damn lucky that the small distance the PAL console gives is exactly the same distance needed to see them? And now that i think about it, why do we need to see them? The farsight allows for blind shots as well right? I realize it'd be extremely difficult but with a proper lineup and knowing exactly where to aim it could be possible??

Perhaps if i make an agent run someday :P Otherwise it should be just as hard to do that shot on TAS as on console really, since it's a blind shot(of course cheats would be turned on for console since its just testing for the possibility). I doubt stuff like wireframe emulation would help in this case(for those unfamiliar with it, it makes it possible to see through walls, since everything is drawn with lines instead of normal textures).

Now that i come to think of it, i should probably try to finish my PA run soonish xD Just so damn hard to find the best setup for pelagic, perhaps i should just screw that and go anyway :P

If there was a way of visualizing the level from the top (as if you were flying), it'd help to tell if it's possible or not. But I believe that people have tried this on NTSC since it was discovered on PAL, so yeah, it's very unlikely that we are that stupid.

I'm a bit drunk, just so you know, it's just people sometimes ask if I'm high or drunk, but never was I really when they asked but now I am drunk because I needed because someone said beer had some vitamins that I might need.
