recycled idea: Skedar Ruins 10 sec saver

Word about Ghus Dark's 2 sec saver trick (using dodge R to add some distance to the bridge jump) inspired me to post this. I wrote up this following walkthrough over a year ago and never got it to work, so I discarded it.

The downside to the idea of pulling forward at the end is that the movement is not fast enough nor that precise. But perhaps using dodge with R could eliminate this problem since the motion is instantenous?

If it can work, it would eliminate the 10 seconds required to place the Falcon 2 on the altar to gain access to the inner sanctum on SA and PA.

The only question: Can we fall far enough to reach the altar and still be able to climb back up?

START:

With the Falcon 2 in hand, stand in the position shown below where the crosshair is parallel to the front side of the altar while as close to the right wall near the door as possible:

Then move the crosshair very slightly to the right so that you are now at an angle with the altar. The hidden event panel that is underneath the altar requires that you are at this angle.

Then take 1 small step backwards so you begin to fall, then quickly pull forward while tapping B to place the Falcon 2 and end up back on the walkway (effect is that of a GE ladder teleport).

Theory is that the thicker the walkway is, the farther you can fall and still climb back up. The rationale for standing close to the wall is exhibited below, where the walkway gets thicker as it approaches the wall (and is thinner elsewhere):

I think I see what your saying, I not 100% sure if it will work but Perfect Dark does let you fall quite low and still let you get up.  If it works or not, it still isa great idea. :)

Nice to see you post Steve.

i tought about it once... the R dodging trick is much better when you are unarmed, that is impossible in this case, as you need to put the falcon down, i don't think it would help much
i was thinking in trying this crouched too, you may get closer to the area where the falcon needs to be placed, but that may also be worse for the dodging, and also for moving fast on the comeback
i'll install my 64 (took it to napa, forgot to place it again) and try it today ;D

Great idea. Probably won't work with the R-trick tho, like Nari said. But let's give it a shot.

I remember trying to pull off this same trick a few months ago, but with no sucess. That's just me though, maybe someone else will have a little more luck.

If you use the farsight, you will see a small computer inside the altar.  This is most definitely the trigger for releasing the Falcon.

Yeah, that's fun how PD use hidden computers for many things (like the blowing corridor in AF1 : there are actually computers above the corridor and they are what's blowing ^^ ).

you dont have to use the falcon. try using the devastarors tjree shots ( or getting the double pheonix ) and just putthe devastator there. pheonix helps defeat the boss.

... you mean like the idea of getting Nat to open the door in Control to save time? >D  Karl thought of that one, I think. It's a shame not everyone's good ideas can be pulled off.
