I had an idea for airforce one agent.  As soon you kill the 3rd to last guard, start to toss the laptop.  Then just focus on opening the door at the bottom of the stairs and stepping in, and maybe look down as you start to back up as to drop the laptop like it's hot.:eek

So yeah, I was playing Infil PA on NTSC just then and ran into a problem.

Using Matt's strat-o-two-grenades-in-antenna-area and strat-o-lookdown-to-avoid-being-shot-by-guards-near-minefield, I discovered that I was acheiving such TTs as 43 shield. So what's my problem, you ask? The interceptor is just taking off! The techie has only just started running! I'm cutting the cinema after the cinema looks up at the guard tower, and before Carrington says his next line.

So yeah. Where did you cut the cinema, Bryan? Where should I cut it, Matt? Would it be wise to wait for the next lift cycle (SA style), and watch heaps more cinema? I figure if we do the bug area so fast on SA, the techie isn't there so we have to wait another lift cycle, so same thing here, right?

BTW, I don't want to use PAL. Slower lifts + door closed at end = teh suck.

Seeing as you're getting 43 (try and get that down to 42;) )... and Bryan got a 49 and made the lift, just cut it 5 seconds after Bryan. If he cut it when I told him, he's cutting it when it looks up... same as when you cut it i guess. I don't think waiting for the next cycle of the 2nd lift is possible.

Good Job Bryan! I can't wait to beat it;) :D

Yeah, go get like 143. ;)   And yeah I cut it like just after Carrington said his next line after the camera straightens out.  I did the old beginning strat so it works out really nice.

Cut cinema after "Watch out for these guards"
High 14 enter tunnel
Low 24 button
Used a guard as a human shield here :)
Lookdown to avoid minefield guards
High 43 "shield"
Closed lift myself
High 1:07 lift shut
Took out guards nicely
1:20ish bottom of ramp
Went rambo here
2nd lift just opened, shut at low 1:32
Rambo ending, switched to left strafe (lucky I did because the last guard tried to cut me off, I pwned him)
1:48.3 :rolleyes
PAL

Nice time + great vid Ryan! I agree with Bryan, i think NTSC might lower the time further (i had a convo with Alex Anderson about it and he told me, although i have forgotten the reasons :\  )

I think it's faster on NTSC, but it's a lot harder. The main problem is cutting the cinema in a place where the techie/last lift are both nice. If you cut it too early, the techie is too far away, and if you cut it too late the last lift is gone. On all Infil PA NTSC vids I've seen (except Paragon's 1:52, I'll have to watch that again sometime), the player has to reopen the last lift because they just miss it.

If I didn't get such a good time on PAL I might try it on NTSC, but I really can't be bothered now.

Can someone explain Defense to me?  I really don't understand it.  Exactly how many hostages do you have to save?  What does opening doors without going in do?  Why can I kill 6 hostages and still complete?  How often will the hostages complete?  Why do the messages at the end of the level always take forever on PA?  I get there at like 1:50 and have to wait 20 seconds.  Meh.  Can't do good on a level if I don't understand it.

On Agent, you only have to save 2 hostages, the rest can die. I'm not sure about the numbers on SA and PA, but they can be easily figured out.

The guards won't start executing their hostages until the door to their room is opened. Thus, we open the door and leave so they kill them. There's one exception to this - The 2nd floor room on the right. You have to actually see them before they start their execution.

If the hostage objective completes just before you get the RCP-120, Carrington can build up a large queue of lines he has to say. He says a new line for each objective. You want it so he starts a new line as you're uplinking "Things are desperate...". If he doesn't say it then, he says it after the ship has already blown up, then runs through the rest of his lines wasting 10 seconds or so. This is why breaking the glass on PA wouldn't help, because you'd have to wait for his lines.

You'll notice both the A and PA WR strats involve having the hostages complete while upstairs. This gives Carrington plenty of time to say his RCP120 line before you get there, so his queue is smaller.

For PA (WR strat), the hostages complete very rarely. From memory it's about twice an hour. The 53 A strat is ok, but you need them to complete earlyish in the firing range. 52 A involves aiming the grenade perfectly, other than that it's fine. SA can be a bitch, you need a hostage (or two?) in the firing range to actually live.

Maybe you're doing something different...on PA, the hostages objective completes a lot more than twice an hour (I've had them complete like 3 times in a row on occasion, although sometimes I'll go 20 minutes without a completion)...I'd say maybe 15-20 completions an hour for me.

There's only a few main parts you have to work on...doing the start fast...doing the grenade on Objective 4 well...surviving the punks at the bottom of the lift...once you get good at those, it's just a matter of time before the hostages complete and you survive a nice run to the finish...I've had runs where I ended up in lift wars trying to get back down (if I do, I shoot a devastator shot to the side of the lift so it goes down and kills people at the bottom), and still ended up with times in the low 1:50s.

Defection PA 1:26

I was thinking for awhile if I should post this on the wr topic or not but then I thought like what the heck Ryan posted 1:27 and I couldn't see any complains.

I think it's possible to squeeze out one more second with a better beginning and end, I also missed skipping the last speech so that's another sec and the programmer can probably get his as up one sec faster and that should make 1:23 possible.

So I do have respect for 1:23 beeing considered the wr on the ranks but 1:26 is now the wr on the proven ranks.

EDIT: Upload start at 1:15 btw... so I did the fast ending, fell down without landing anywhere between before the comp.

I was thinking some about the Skedar trick. If it saves time to open door on Skedar Ruins, Wouldn't it also save time on War?

Alright, so I guess the trick is...
After you drop the gun off at the alter thing, you start heading back, and you can see the door up by the little walkway that you are about to get onto...You can open it from down there (but not in War! because Elvis can't reach)...

That's pretty cute...

Not actually. PALers don't have to rely on Elvis' speed all the time. On NTSC, Elvis has to be fast at the start AND you have to hope for a good Elvis warp / run (I dunno if he warps or just runs while you wait in the Obj. 2 room).

Why would any NTSCer want to be good at Deep Sea if the best they could ever do is 40 pts from the WR. It's clearly not worth the time one would need to invest.
