If people call people gay or throw some other useless insult about in a post, without offering constructive information as to why they are correct... should I:

a) Delete the entire post (prob not)
b) Edit out the senseless flaming part
c) Do nothing

This is a vote. I'll do whatever the majority wants. Shade, Expert, PD0 and Ngamer - your vote counts as 3. As does mine. Any other mod - your vote counts as 2.

If the post is just "you are gay", then it should be deleted. If it has some good quality strats or something then a "you are gay" at the end, then it should be edited.

Insults can be funny or annoying, usually depending on the person saying it. Like, renemisis' posts are generally amusing, and he is always insulting everyone, heh. JMP's insults are retarded, annoying and unintelligent by definition. I say we just let it be, mindless bashing has been a part of the Elite since the days of old. Besides, the Elite would get boring after a while, and a little namecalling never hurt anyone (on these boards, that is). I doubt anyone has been scarred for life because someone called him gay all the time on a message board.

When I first joined I was insulted by Tyler. Darren told to leave because I said Gamecube controllers are more comfortable than PS2 controllers. I hated it. The only reason I stayed was because I wanted to pwn everyone at PD, which I now do. Insulting people may be funny for the regulars, but it's a different story for the newbies. They're human too, after all.

Indeed they are. However, newbies get bashed everywhere, not just on forums, but in most aspects of life. You have to be able to deal with it eventually, so in a sense, this can be a good experience. I know I went into new forums 'stronger' after getting burned on my first, and who knows, maybe in other situations as well which I just didn't realize were related to this. It's a psychological exercize of sorts, hehe.

Edit: YE, you hated those incidents when you first joined because you took personal offense to mindless insults, which you don't do anymore. The sooner people learn to not take such things seriously, the better.

ye.. i know ur all good at pd and that.. but when it comes to the forums your still quite new in comparison to the majority of the members, don't be surprised if your opinion isn't valued as much as you think it should be.

I say expert needs to be brang in on this.. No offence to matt or anything.. but reading through topics and seeing "jugador edit: no one is gay" etc is just rooted. I think Ngamer more than does his work here, i can agree more mods are needed for time reasons etc.. But why @#%$ with the system..

btw, tyler is my hero.

As far as newbie flaming goes, I somehow managed to escaped getting insulted when I first came to the boards. Probably because all I ever did was post PR's and that's it.

Lets compare this with GameFAQs. If a mod at GameFAQs made a post asking whether he should delete flames or not, of course everyone would choose no. Then there's no point having a mod. The mod would most likely lose his powers just for posting that question.

However, this isn't as strict as GameFAQs. People call each other gay and insult each other on a regular basis. It sickens me. It's just not funny any more. I hate seeing a new post in the PD forum, just to go in and see Cuben calling Contestation gay. Completely off-topic.

What have we become? We've gone from good little boys who obey the rules to people who insult all newbies, and most of the other regular users. And nothing is done about it. That's because you (and Harv) would make a new post even if no one said anything in between the 10 minute period, but that's not really a concern anymore. Also, we're talking about someone editing other people's posts, not their own, and the concept of hypocricy doesn't apply in this context anyway.

1. Gamefaqs is gay. To use them as an example of how things should be done here is awful. If this place became as moderator activist as gamefaqs, I'd be the first one out the door. The pointof having mods isn't so we can edit out petty arguments, it's to get rid of spam (real spam) and porn.

2. If you are going to edit a post, don't throw in your own little comment. No one gives a fuck what you say...just leave it blank.

3. Ryan, you're quoting a 3 1/2 year old rule that wasn't followed from day one. Moot point. Moving on...
