TS2 MapMaker Elite mission #2:

www.angelfire.com/az3/gra...xps.html#2

Not that hard...20 minutes of playing or less oughta snag you a WR.  Current World Record time (GCN version): 21 seconds.

1. d4 --

I assume you are familiar with algebraic notation.

Feel free to man up, and be dominated.

I will play 3 games at once. This is board 1. Boards 2 and 3 will be open to anyone, including a person already playing another board. I will play as Black on board 2 and and board 3. Oh and let's play 1 move a day--for 1 side a day. On each board.

edit: Just found a good concise guide to chess notation..
www.uschess.org/beginners/read/

And a guide to those obscure rules that Strats scorns..

Three's my lucky number. Black is lucky in general (that's why it goes second--for equity).
White: player C; Black: Dead Lee Assassin (me)

Yes, Lank, I was serious about that dude.  John Bick -- didn't you look him up?  He was one hell of a chess player: He's trained to move his pieces as quickly as possible.  Thus, he was able to beat one of our dorm-mates, someone familiar with chess, in under five of his gameseconds -- as soon as his opponent made his move, he immediately knew the most efficient one to move most quickly to checkmate, and was able to execute each of his moves in ~1/3 of a second.  Apparently he had won less than fifteen moves later.  Maybe that means his opponent wasn't that good, but he also beat 11 out of 12 middle school level chess team members, *simultaneously*, where he wasn't allowed to look at any of the boards -- his opponents' moves were reported to him, and then he gave his moves in notation form.  He sat in an empty room, alone save for when the runner came to report moves, and won 11 of the 12 matches.  He also was the type to get into barroom brawls -- he headbutted (a preferred fight-opener of his) more than one person freshman year alone: A savant.

John Bick...same guy who won the Denker Tournament?  I think that was him...anyways, a fellow from around here, Goshen Indiana, who happens to be good friends with my brother, also tied for 1st in a recent Denker tourney, like a year or two ago...that's pretty awesome, trust me...he got like a full 4 year scholarship to some top university.  I wouldn't mind winning that....
I'm a chessplayer too, I don't really play much anymore..I played on ICC, beat 2 IMs, my only good accomplishment 8)   Other than that, I basically only got to around 1350 USCF rating before I quit...my brother started at the same time and he managed to get to about 1800 or close to it, so I should be up there...I can beat him sometimes too.
And playing without looking at the board is, from what I can remember, "blindfold" chess.  That kid (he's 18, I believe) has played like that before...I think it's fun, they have something like that on ICC where you can't see any pieces on the board but it just shows the notations and so it's basically the same thing over the net.

i found some sites with games he played. i will go over them later. a 4 year scholarship for chess acomplishments!? dam thats tight! 1 move in 1/3 second? that is pretty dam tough to do. assuming he has super human reflexes, and it takes at least .2 seconds to move the hand from the piece to the clock to tap it, and at least .1 second to move the hand in the air hovering over the pieces onto the piece, and then move the piece to the location it needs to be moved, the fastest imaginable time for that would be .3 seconds. this gives him .0333... seconds to think. first, it takes at least half a second even if u move insanely fast to make one chess move in OTB play. im having a hard time believing 1/3 second for each move. that cant be right. ive played a lot of OTB speed chess, and that is unreasonable. although, if u r looking at the number of moves made, and divide that by how much time it took to make those moves to figure out how much time per move on average he makes, then there might be a fiundamental flaw. in the rules of chess, u have to press the clock with the same hand u make the move, and also u cannot touch a piece to make a move BEFORE ur opponent has pressed there clock AFTER making there move. so maybe this guy makes his move right after the opponent makes their move, WHILE the oppoent is moving their hand from the piece to the clock to press the clock. this is illegal. he must wait for his opponent to press the clock before ever touching his own pieces to make the move. this would account for that extra time he gains, the extra time being the time it takes his opponent to move his hand from the chess piece to the clock.

in conclsion, i now feel like playing speed chess.

Dunno...I'm thinking he had it narrowed down to a very few moves while his opponent was thinking, and he would hardly need to think about the next move at all -- he'd see his opponent's hand moving toward a piece, see him moving it, and already know what move to make by the time his opponent had hit the clock.  thus nearly the full third of a second to move.  still, fast hands.  he told me he played one match, one that was televised to at least some extent, from home in his underwear, but he was quite a, er, kidder.

"You aren't thought police. If these ideas have no merit, they will inevitably prove harmless; if they have merit, it is in *everyone's* best interest that they be heard -- that's just the way thought works." -- Strats, first post (para. 1), this thread.

This chess game is the exfoliation of ideas, for all to read and enjoy (and comment on, if you like). If our moves have merit, and there's some community interest, then heck, man.

"Take this chess game elsewhere" means that the Grand Experiment isn't feeling too experimental these days. Don't get sore. I'm just asking, are *you* the grand experiment or are *we*? I thought we could put the chess versus PD thing to rest and see what kind of interest we could generate in the (apparently) totalitarian regime known as The Grand Experiment. Everybody likes variety, and that's what democracy brings. //ribs Strats///

Lanky, nevermind this bully. G'head and move playa.

For the record, I have been playing this game, and will play every game, using only my chess board at home. I will not "consult" chess engines, chess books, or chess players. EXCEPTION: any posts (such as strategy or about possibilities in the game) are fair game.

I'm not sore, I'm afraid you are, which was not my intention.  In fact I didn't want to post about it at all 'cuz I wondered if you'd try to make me look like a hypocrite myself, but you two are playing a personal game...every move doesn't need to be recorded in this topic.  It's apples and oranges and I think the tone is a little insensitive and rhetorical: "nevermind this bully. G'head and move playa", "in the (apparently) totalitarian regime ", "are *you* the grand experiment or are *we*"...

Yeah, I figured we were both key members of TGE at this point, but this chess game debacle is a followup to you deriding PD (in favor of cstrike and CHESS) in a lengthy post, so you tell me; I honestly thought you were sort of wiping your hands of it.  I will continue to invite strategy discussions from all types of games *to TGE* (not here; this topic is a *newsletter* about TGE events to inform people here), but all you two are posting is moves, I don't see what's so communal or enlightening about that.

All I was trying to ask you to do is finish the moves somewhere else...if we started doing chess stuff in TGE, then information about those goings-on would be appropriate to mention here.  e.g., if you two were to (kindly) finish the game in TGE>Free Speech, I/you/Lanky could report on the winner and highlights in a post in here afterward.

capeesh?  no offense was intended; i was offended myself because I thought you were trying to create your own cstrike/chess faction or sumpin.  also you perhaps didn't read the email i sent you until after you posted more moves?  the tone there was less confrontational; i initially thought you were blowing off the email and posting another move as if to say "pssh whatever," which was an upsetting notion.

i don't see where you have the right to make such demands, your topic was moved to the combat simulator forum as this is a solo only section of the message boards. This topic itself is off-topic for this particular forum, making it itself nothing more than spam, and even after your topic was moved you still felt the urge to disrespect the mods of the boards decision by remaking the topic. What i'm saying is.. you have no right to complain about a harmless little chess game.

stfu genisics.  the mod powers-that-be have seen fit to leave the topic here...perhaps they see that I'm not trying to start trouble and instead am doing things for the good of the community?  it's not off-topic, if anything it's off-forum, but again we've been through all that.  the higher-ups are allowing it.  stop acting like it's so irrelevant to what you're doing here: TGE is a sister site to The Elite.  so stfu!

meanwhile, out of respect for those who have claimed that rogue topics can be "distracting", i was simply trying to get the boys to finish the game elsewhere.  i was not trying to be shifty by emailing tron -- rather, i was trying to make sure a public scene wasn't made, because it wasn't that big a deal anyway.  i have said on more than one occasion that strategy discussions for all games are welcome at TGE...that's not the same thing as in this topic, which is a newsletter to inform the talented players here of what's occurring elsewhere in the Perfect Dark community (i.e., at www.angelfire.com/az3/grandexperiment et al).

so i'm trying to make this topic less of an affront to the hataz...nice try making me look like an a-hole but this time i'm trying to help *you* (you being a hata) out.

Lank, here's a nice place to finish your game:
s2.invisionfree.com/The_G...howforum=8
I'll even report the results in the next newspost.

now if you don't mind i'd like to shut up and let this topic fade back into the forum list until such time as TGE has more news to report.

Do you not know why gaming is appealing to people?  It's because it's stimulating.  People our age have been trained to feel the need to be constantly stimulated.  The majority of the people in the-elite, are not people who are incredibly calm and tranquil.  In other words, gaming does NOT make contact with the heart and soul, it is an easy escape of avoiding homework, and social activity due to the constant stimulation, similar to that of a drug stimulant.

I failed to congratulate you on a perfect score. Not a feat I've cared to dare, yet. Let me clock my time loggedon the thing from now on. Get back to you with time it took for me to get a perfect result.
I can't guarantee a perfect score in one game, can I? No matter how smart I am or how long I thought about it and what information I had available? There is a random factor, wouldn't you say?

Thanks for playing. Thanks for posting. Always like the honest yet incredible reports.
