i.e. compilation.  yeah, i know you could piece together all the info you need to know about a particular Mission.Diff using vids and poring over topics, but would a compendium of strats, pertinent data (noteworthy time milestones, tentative info about how competed-over the particular Mission.Diff is, inferences about how luck-based it is, inspiring anecdotes, etc), and other resources be a worthwhile addition to the Elite?  for example, reading a few nightmare stories about invest has made me want to avoid that mission like the plague: it sounds maddeningly unrewarding.  but i could be wrong...

i'd find the fastimes pursuit more manageable with a well-kept repository in place for all the relevant information about each Mission.Diff -- and would be glad to work towards its realization.

one idea i had for TGE was to attempt Time Graphs...representations of how the average player might expect his times to improve, Versus Time Spent.  The implementation was just going to be a log of wr's along with the date when they were achieved.  Thus a player doesn't have to see just one, current wr time, try the mission 20 times and not come within 30 seconds of it, and then feel inferior.  He can monkeybar his way from wr time to wr time, and hopefully feel more motivation that way.

I'm not quote sure what you're talking about, so I'll write everything which can to mind while reading your post.

"i.e. compilation."

I was thinking of making a compilation video of "The Best of the Best" od PD and GE, where scenes of the best stuff fade in and out (with music in the background, of course). Things to include in it would be Karl's Villa A ending, Bryan's Surface 1 locks, Wouter's Frigate 00A where he dives down the stairs like lightning, Karl's Villa SA snipers except the last two, Matt's G5 maulage vid, Karl's Pelagic II PA headshot maybe. You get the idea.

"i'd find the fastimes pursuit more manageable with a well-kept repository in place for all the relevant information about each Mission.Diff"

This isn't Visual Basic :p

"one idea i had for TGE was to attempt Time Graphs...representations of how the average player might expect his times to improve, Versus Time Spent. The implementation was just going to be a log of wr's along with the date when they were achieved."

Don't get me started. I have a text file with all my PRs that I got and when since June/July. Also, I have various graphs in Excel about different stuff related to points. Also, the Elite does have a time graph somewhere... here.

Gah, you shoved about a million possibly good ideas into one tiny post.  Let me see here...

So you're suggesting that we create seperate pages for each level.  And on that page would be, first and foremost, a number of good strats for different times, ranging from WR to just ok, for each of the difficulties.  After that could come some commentary from best players at the level, maybe thoughs on how difficult it would be to tie/break the WR.  Another neat feature would be a listing of comprehensive Target Times for various places throughout the level.

It's a good idea, and it would certainly give a home to such pages as YE's Ode to Defection and ST's Ode to Frigate.  But it would also take alot of work to do it, and do it right.  Maybe we would be better off just getting quality WR walkthroughs created for every level.

The graph thing is kind of interesting, but I'm not sure it'd be worth the work.  We'd be doing something like finding out how long it took everyone to get their WRs, and then people could look and find the easiest ones?  Eh, I don't know about that.

As far as my graphs, I just want to point out that the points one is a few months behind, time I've stopped updating, and total time I'm still tracking, but I need to rework the graph to go lower.

And then, for videos, keep your dirty hands off that idea, YE.  For another month at least.

I'd still like to see a video of all the fastest Agent videos put together. It'd be a 45 minute run including level openings, endscreens and Combat Boost time, but encoded with DivX that could work out to around 250MB. It could be amazing.

I never got anywhere with this project because Adobe Premier is horribly complicated to use, and I couldn't figure out how to simply append one video onto another...

Totoro!  I love that guy.

Anyways, that Agent video could be pretty cool, and yeah, I could do it myself, but I've got a few other ideas up my sleeve that I'd like to get to first.

So...  You know Sam, I never did give you that quick tour of Premiere like I said I was going to.  I'll try to catch you online some time this weekend and we can go through that.  I think with a little practice you'll be able to get that video together without too much trouble.
