And obviously my times suck.

My Times

This is what I have so far.  Anyway, if you guys are willing, I'd like to learn a couple tricks on how to better my times.  First off, is the super-strafe absolutely necessary to get times?  It feels uncomfortable, but I'll conform if need be.

Second, I've seen something about a "message skip."  How exactly is this done?

If you guys could help me, along with any other tips, I'd be grateful.  Thanks again.

[EDIT] - YE, I meant the one where you have to have it on 1.2 (Turok style), where the C-buttons control movement.  I can do it on 1.1 (default), but I was wondering if I had to do that other one.

Firstly, that link. Click the edit button near your name, then on the next screen make sure the "ezCodes" button is on (above the text). That converts the code into the actual... thing, which makes your link clickable.

Speed strafing is absolutely necessary. Simply sidestep while running forwards, then steer yourself.

Speech skipping is done by pausing as soon as a character starts their line. They say their line while the pause menu is up, which saves time. Not all speech can be skipped, though.

EDIT: 1.2 is slightly faster than 1.1, but it's up to you which one you use. 1.1 wears out your control stick faster though. I think most of the top 10 are 1.2.

Well, would you look at this!  Another well-mannered newb.  This has been the best months of new members ever, I do believe.

As far as strafing, yeah, save yourself the trouble and learn 1.2 right from the start of your fast times career.  There are still those who are able to compete at a high level using 1.1, but for the most part 1.2's going to help you out.

Thanks everyone, and glad I'm the token n00b of the day.  Could be worse -- I'm not one of those "Gimmeh cheest or i wil hAx0Rz U!!1!11111oneone!!1!!eleven!" guys.

I'll ask more questions as I get them -- my goal right now is to get at least one point on my belt.  I can't even get 3 seconds on Duel...ugh.  Practice makes perfect, I guess.

Hah, this guy reminds me of myself when I first joined...cept he isn't gay, and he isn't being stupid...for that, I applaud you. Good job little man.

I was exactly like you when it comes to Duel...just practice for awhile, you'll get it.

It's funny that you say you can't even get duel 3, but your page says you have it.

Also, neo must have thought about welcoming you. "little" man, that's what he used to be :p

Yeah, I got it about 11 or 12 last night.  It took a lot of work for me, though...I'm sure everyone here can do it with their eyes closed.  I'll keep trying to shave my times down.

Just thought you might like to know for your personal times page... levels that aren't completed don't count as 'completed in zero seconds', as the way you added them might suggest.

When you're adding them up, you count 'N/A' as times completed in 20 minutes... or at least I think it was 20 minutes a couple years ago when I used to play...

Welcome.

Thanks Sam, I hope I can do better and get a couple more points racked up.  I've been reading strats for the levels; I didn't know about that Extraction glitch and I lowered my time by 30 seconds.  I only have 1:08 on it on A, though, so I'll have to keep working to get the record.

Right now, though, I'm trying to figure out how to get my N64 plugged into my VCR to tape my runs.  It won't work though, so I don't know what's wrong.  Stupid old VCR...
