has anyone tried leaning with R and c left/right to gain time? I wonder if you could hit the fade spots earlier with this by a tenth or something.

That actually worked? LOL wtf. Awesome job and much respect to DaTel for figuring it out.

Is this the only level where this is useful? I'd hate the full game TAS to be obsoleted by this xD

I feel a little silly overlooking this in hindsight, considering I used the one set of dual weapons makes a missed pair on a test play of B2... which, can be seen Here: or not, since I apparently never uploaded this one. Maybe I'll dip through my old m64's later on.

i did that on my frigate DLTK. i wouldn't have gotten 1.13 without it. i don't remember how much it saved, but i think it was only a couple of hundredths. it might save more on other levels.

btw, i improved the ending of my jungle DLTK. i got 1:45.183 (i had forgotten to use the handwarp at the end). it was 1:45.666 before, so the warp saved about a half second. it wasn't very optimized though.

Tasvideos.org writeup:

One year later and...

Streets completed!

Alright so...Streets was bugging me and Simon for a long time. So far we had managed to tie or beat all the best TAS times on every level but on streets this just seemed impossible. Simons 1:51 was incredible, hard to tie under normal circumstances, and since we are using 2.3 control style, we have a disadvantage by not being able to strafe Val as efficiently(leaning doesn't work while aiming). So we were discussing if we should just settle with 1:52 for this run and live with it, and as it turned out... we just couldn't get 1:51...

Very likely this is the best GE TAS ever.

That was awesome. Very clever strats there with the grenade boosts and such. I am interested as to whether you can get an instant explosion of the roadblock by the mines and skip it with GL. would surely save good time and make 1:12 a lot easier.

I doubt the roadblock can be destroyed fast enough for a full lookdown GL boost to work. It can be destroyed fairly quickly if looking at it a bit but still takes a sec or so. Best way is prolly to throw away an explosive from a distance and hope to run through fire unharmed and still get boosted(it's all about timing as you know, like Aztec consoles).

For the TAS we gained 20 frames(0.33 secs) on this but that was combined with a better mine boost.

Just watched the 1:50

Nice to see that strafing Val and getting the early BA, things I pioneered, are now the standard in expert streets runs.

I've tried taking out that roadblock before.  It's really hard to say if a console usable method saves time.  Waiting grenades is ridic but the method you used seems like it has a shot of working.

If you "pioneered" strafing Val on Streets, then you might want to inform 2000-2001 era Sterling so he can give you credit in his walkthrough:

Ryan was the first one to strafe Val outside the building.

Might not be a major helpful find (since its very annoying), and I'm sure Simon would have found it anyway, but Ryan still did pioneer it.

It's like when I got Frigate 00A 1:07 with the new strat. Sure I didn't come up with the strat, but I still pioneered it because I was the first one to show that it is possible to complete with it/execute a completion with it.

YOUR EMINENCE, MR. GREG WOLL.

I AM WRITING YOU TODAY TO APOLOGIZE FOR BEING AMBIGUOUS IN REPLY #636 TO THIS THREAD.  WHAT I INTENDED WAS TO SAY THAT I INNOVATED 'STRAFING VAL OUT OF THE ROOM;' A STRATEGY THAT SAVES 2-3 SECONDS FROM OTHER STRAFING METHODS.  I ADMIT THAT STERLING PERHAPS INNOVATED STRAFING VAL TO THE CORNER OF THAT ROOM, WHICH DID SAVE UP TO 0.7 SECONDS.  I AM SINCERELY REGRETFUL OF ANY INCONVENIENCE AND STRESS MY CARELESS POSTING HAS CAUSED YOU.

I was strafing Val out of the building well before Ryan's vids of him doing it showed up. You didn't invent it, innovate it, discover it. You just "used" it. I imagine many others did it before you, as well.

You're a poor strat-maker. Stick to arrogantly bragging about your times - at least they're good.

Lol at anyone "inventing" that strat, it's not even a strat xD. You just strafe him a little further, it's OBVIOUS. Whoever invented valstrafe in the first place invented strafing him further. Besides, strafing him out was discussed since the dawn of time, it's just that poeple had lives back then.

On another note, if anyone has any crazy strat ideas/other ideas/funny stuff for Train/Jungle/Control/Caverns/Cradle/Aztec/Egypt that they want me to test/use in the TAS then post here.
