Its a cool strat but unfortunately is useless because of the way the level works. Using that rocket to blow through the barrier is .2-.3 faster than going around which is the same time gain as a normal boost, plus is riskier/probably takes more health than a full lookdown boost. Thus it doesnt make sense to use it there when you could do a normal boost with it. Also it makes it so you cant do the guard kill there which sometimes you need to go for to get a 2nd GL. It looks swag but in the end its a useless strat.

I found that if you only have that one rocket boost then it's faster trough the barrier, since with rocket boost you save like .3 but if you go trough the barrier then you would probably save that .2-.3 for the shortcut + you still get the boost so it saves .2-.3 over just doing the one boost normally.
But yea if you have a GL you can instead do maybe 2 or 3 boosts for the health it seems to lose to go trough the barrier unless there's some way to lose less health.

Looked like 129 pace. you were 5 seconds behind my 124 at the pause. maybe 128 with INSANE ending. sick exhaust bay though.

It's possible to blow yourself trough the console on Aztec 00A, I have been able to do this with half a bar of health too but it seems you need to hug the console for a bit or you kill yourself.

1.1 is clearly the faster control style, why even use 1.2 when the control stick clearly never loses speed or makes something like b1 18 take 20 hours to ge- oh, wait.

I don't like 1.2. For me, it's like playing inverted in a Halo game, but worse. I don't care if the stick loses speed. I have fun and that's what matters to me.
I'll keep going for times that satisfy me, even if they are classified as shit by most of the elite.

1.1 doesnt really lose time on B1 A. I can see like 10 places he could have done better on that 18 that were irrelevant to control style. 1.2 is definitely better for levels like s1 that require a lot of up/down angle adjustments, but a basic level like b1 a should be fine...

Not being a hater i just think using the control style argument here is a bit silly.

Agreed with Justin. Benobot plays for a different purpose than what most of the elite's is, and if he's having a good time, so be it. He's harmless and not negatively affecting anyone else's fun. It was a little spammy with the floods of 0-point times before the point filter, but that's long since past. Besides, if he were to put in the effort into Goldeneye like Guitar Hero, I'm sure he'd be another player in the big group of beastly 2014/5 generation.

If you want to hero 1.1 out then sure, do your thing. But since you're still at the beginning, it would take you two or three days tops to get used to 1.2, and that would set you in pace for way better results. It's ok also to not chase points/WRs all the time - but don't unnecessarily handicap yourself, listen to better players' advices, and take more risks!

Seems the 4th shot shots did hit him in the head. But how it wen't that far off to the right with seemingly no movement from the weapon? Very odd. Some extreme luck i guess.

Not really too useful, but doing some hybrid warp on emulator with 0 collision can get you through to some places which are normally blocked.


Probably useless (or known) but leaning in whatever way I do (i seriously lean and spam everything) 'pushes' you a few pixels forward or somewhat. For the control door, I couldn't get through the second half of it (you can notice a semi-invisible wall stopping you from going through) without the lean. Can also get you outside some areas.

Again, probably not helpful; the 0 collision is probably needed to get 'inside' the terrain for this to work.

Did some testing, and it seems like looking LEFT is the way to go. That way the mine goes through pretty much every time. (even if you are fairly close to the wall/door when throwing) Just make sure you do it before you pass the last pillar on the left, otherwise the "below the stairs" part of the room won't unload properly.

The only difficulty then is hitting the door. Last time i looked into this i concluded that this only works if you hit the door, otherwise the mine goes into the void and can't destroy anything. So you probably wanna line up the throw a bit.


Not sure how fast this is compared to double-mining the glass, but i suppose there's always room for optimization.

Edit: Considering we can't warp the first door with this strat, i'm fairly certain this is gonna be slower no matter what. (It's far more useful on TAS where you have to prime a nade) Even without taking the warp into considering, the strat still seemed pretty slow.

Probably slower overall but possibly faster if Doak is in the 2nd of the good spots, if the door opens fast. If this could be improved it could be a faster strat but I can't find a faster way to lure the guard to open the door to Trev.

Cut together a small vid of the 'stupidly laggy' areas on S1.

Top right info is memory free, something to do with objects, texture memory.
Having sniper out uses less Texture memory - but not sure if this affects 'lag'. Pistol is ~3% more than sniper/melee sniper (unarmed is like 10% lol).
* How does being unarmed use almost double the texture memory???

Top left info seems to reflect in game lag pretty consistently: visible lag = hz drops/frames increase so I assume if you're doing a level fully at 15hz (standard lookdown allows 30hz/2frames in MOST levels) you'll be using twice as many frames.

Perhaps the full model of the hand requires a more complex texture than the mostly flat surfaced, single-colored guns. (i can't quite remember what the hand looks like in detail so i might be wrong) Might affect both size and compression rate.

Wonder if these textures are available somewhere, like in the GE setup editor?

Yeah, they're all in the 'romimagesfull' folder though I have no clue what to do with all the bmps or where to start looking for the hand texture.

Would make sense as the increase in memory carries over to pistol where the hand is visible.

When the UTM gets to around 50-60% there's generally a decrease to 20hz/3frames or so; maybe no unarmed/pistol might be a way to reduce lag enough to keep in the 30hz/2frame range (though I suspect it's vastly more complicated than that, with models being loaded etc) - there's a relationship between low available UTM and lower hertz across all levels, maybe every little helps.

Did another small test on something... music/audio affects your frames? Thought about it last night while doing some streets: might hold true for levels with big explosions/turrets/whatever audio chaos happens with this game.


20 seconds of music/fx off (stable 30, some 3 frames) - turn on music/fx to full and then it spikes back and forth between 30 and 20.
I know, small sample but I can test it around if you think it could actually mean anything. It only works with both fully off*

Well the recorded sound is still useful sometimes since you can hear the 60 hz buzz or something that is synced with the gameplay that would be my guess at least.
