Wonder if these textures are available somewhere, like in the GE setup editor?
Yeah, they're all in the 'romimagesfull' folder though I have no clue what to do with all the bmps or where to start looking for the hand texture.
Would make sense as the increase in memory carries over to pistol where the hand is visible.
When the UTM gets to around 50-60% there's generally a decrease to 20hz/3frames or so; maybe no unarmed/pistol might be a way to reduce lag enough to keep in the 30hz/2frame range (though I suspect it's vastly more complicated than that, with models being loaded etc) - there's a relationship between low available UTM and lower hertz across all levels, maybe every little helps.
Did another small test on something... music/audio affects your frames? Thought about it last night while doing some streets: might hold true for levels with big explosions/turrets/whatever audio chaos happens with this game.
20 seconds of music/fx off (stable 30, some 3 frames) - turn on music/fx to full and then it spikes back and forth between 30 and 20.
I know, small sample but I can test it around if you think it could actually mean anything. It only works with both fully off*
