old n64 magazines

i was clearing out my attic and came accross all my old n64 magazines from years ago and thought i would have a look at the ge times page in them. Did anybody else here from the uk used to buy these? I assume that alot if not all of them are fake or done in an emmulator or something as 4 or more of them are better than current wrs. what struck me though was that 1 of the guys times all seemed genuine enough speed wise yet his control was 3.40(best was 3.39 for this level) all his other times were normal. dam 54,bunker 1 19, depot 30, even his aztec was over 3minutes so he didn't even know about train shot and glass strat. So was chatting to my m8 about it and he said that he remembers that in 1 of his magazines there was something about being able to make natalya work faster. i know this is used to save time near the start but there may be a way to make her work faster later on. My friend is going to try and dig out the mag for more info. in the meantime i'm devoting time into this level as we speak to see if i can find something. I don't know why i care so much about this but i'm just convinced that this guys times are genuine. some of the other times in the mag are iffy to say the least. in dam there are 3 52s 3 53s and a 54. in depot 3 people have 23 there is a 24 and a 30. aztec best is like 1.10 and others have 1.11 1.12 and 1.13. asside from these levels the rest are the same if not worse that current wrs. cradle best is 39. egypt 47. archives 16 facility 47.

Intresting find. It would be a great read to laugh at all the lies. Something you have to take into consideration, the editors will just read the times and slap them on the page without any real research. I mean, what can they really know? Bottom line. If there was a trick developed so many years ago that can knock so much time off Control. The Elite would already know about it.

I seriously think someone who understands whatever language the source code of GE is in should investigate it to find any timesavers, assuming the source code is available somewhere.

Are you sure they weren't cheat times?  They could have used the turbo cheat, and then those should all be legit.

The source is very likely in C, but I doubt it's available to anyone outside Rare (and maybe not even to them, considering the legal wranglings that surround them.) But I'd be happy to look through it if someone got hold of it.

well graham, its not totally impossible that theres a trick on control just waiting to be discovered by the elite.... but it is doubtful.

no they are def not cheat times. you have to send a picture of the time which shows it as best time cheat times don't save.

Yeah i've got a few uk editions of N64 Magazine and Nintendo Official Magazine. I think in one of em, they required vid proof. Not sure whether cheats were allowed, but i recall some of the times were sketchy. I'll have to have look tomoz and write some of the times they got in this topic. But seeing as the vids only went to the editors, there's no way of knowing. If there were vids sent at all. There were leaderboards for games like Mario Kart, Perfect Dark, Wave Race. I'll check those also. Maybe someone knows the people who sent the times in, there were some european names in the mix.

i know that the runway ones are @#%$. because i tried beating the times back in the days with turbo mode on and ended up with exactly the same time over and over again. its also possible to setup action replay cheats in a way that the game wont notice your cheating thus saving your time as a legit one.
