Hardest records?
« on: April 09, 2007, 10:50:00 pm »
Well, it's been a little while since one of these has been posted so I think it's about time we had a topic on here discussing how hard each record is. I guess I'll do a little write up on each record as well since lists are rather boring. Also seems pointless to do them for each category first, so I'll just go ahead and make a list of each one as a whole (IE each difficulty combined into one list).

60. Depot 26 - no explanation necessary, first TS should get a 26 for any decent player.

59. Runway SA :23- Same as 26, in that no explanation is really necessary.

58. Archives 00A :55- can get more boosts on 00, also better chances of KF7 guards coming to the safe during Mishkin meet. 55 is such a cakey time though, and takes only a fraction of time that 16 usually takes.

57. Archives SA :55- same as above. Just less boost odds.

56. Streets 00A 1:56- well i suck at Streets, but getting enough boosts cant be too hard here.

55. Streets SA 1:56- well Id have a hard time getting this moreso than other records, but a lot of people have this and they usually get it pretty quickly

54. Caverns A 1:03 - well, same as with Streets, I suck at this level, and would take like 20 h for 1:03, but so many people have it/cake it. Cant be too strong.

53. Archives Agent :16- well, for me personally this would be harder than dam 53, but so many people have it.

52. Surface 1 A 1:03 - pretty cakey record, i think everyone should have this cakey piece of @#%$. I have like 36 without that many hours put into it (maybe 12), so it cant be hard.

51. Dam Agent :53- similar to archives 16 in that the jump from 54 to 53, much like 17 to 16, is astronomical considering you can have hideous runs be 54 anyway, but regardless this is tied by many players now and isnt too strong at all. Will probably have 3 rows of ties by next year.

50. Surface 1 SA 1:50 - 1:50 is cakey for any decent surface player and probably even people who havent played it that many hours. the only hard part is the ending, if not for that Id surely have double digit 1:50's.

49. S1 00A 1:50- same as above, except the KF7 guards are really annoying on 00A and its hard to survive sometimes.

48. Bunker 1 SA :23 - 22 is happening soon, but the fact is 23 requires quite some guard luck regardless although i think for 23 speed the cam shots are pretty easy.22 speed requires a lot more skill with the cams, and also more luck i imagine.

47. Egyptian SA :47- I guess this record is relatively hard since fast baron deaths are rare especially with the annoying 2nd and 3rd barons, but the fact is 47 speed is very cakey.

46. Surface 2 A :51-Well, maybe this should be ranked even higher, but then again maybe not. i thought i had 50 on my run, but that just shows how insane of a mine throw you need for 50 when mine was very far. but the fact is the comms equipment never blows up, so when it does its like OMFG and you cant choke on the ending.

45. Egyptian 00A :47 - IMO this really isnt much harder than SA, but still the last Baron is more annoying on 00A. pretty lame time though.

44. Statue Agent 2:20- 2:19 has been failed, just nobody gives a @#%$ about Statue.

43. Statue SA 2:19- FR. thats about the only really tough thing about this record. 2:18 will probably happen eventually anyway.

42. Statue 00A 2:19- more boosts blah who cares about this gay record.

41. Frigate 1:11- Much lower will happen. every 1:11 so far has been pretty ugly.

40. Cradle SA :36 - 36 speed is so easy really, just nobody gives a @#%$ about cradle.

39 . Cradle 00A :36 - hm mysterious why this is untied.

38.. Egyptian Agent :46- I really think this record will be tied a lot more in the next year and its been shown that 46 speed is all in the baron deaths, so its a mere matter of luck here since the baron shots are 10000% easier than sa/00a.

37. Surface 2 SA :54 - can take many hours to get this nade throw to connect, but i imagine it cant be too hard once you get the timing down with cheats or something.

36. Surface 2 00A 1:29- myself and others have failed 1:26-ish times, but considering the low rate of things completing the way you want them to (ie first cam), this is a fairly hard time.

35.Caverns 1:42- Probably the worst record in terms of how far off max it is. Still hard as hell to live, though.

34. Runway Agent :22 - Im surprised how many people have this, but a lot of luck is involved here. Can take 10 minutes or 30 hours.

33. Bunker 1 :17 - Kind of a pity this record isnt ranked highly any more, but its mostly a luck deal as with runway 22. Can take forever or barely any time (ie only took me an hour).

32. Runway :37 - This will probably become tied within the next few months if anyone decides to care about this level enough.

31. Bunker 2 Agent :24 - I personally think this time should be a lot more tied than it is.

30. Facility Agent :46 - Pretty tough record, but 4 people have it and the level is quite consistent once you play it enough (santos claims like 6 46's...)

29. Cradle Agent :34- extremely hard to kill trev using 34 strat, but it shouldnt take more than 10 hours for any good cradle player.

28. caverns 1:22- I suppose 1:21 will happen, but so many peope have 1:23 so 1:22 cant be anything more than a 1:23 minus a few backs.

27. Aztec sa 1:41 - I can see like 1:39 here.

26. Facility sa :55. Not much to be said.

25. Jungle Agent :52

24. Dam 1:59 - Pretty tough to get when the guards are extremely gay in the tunnel, but 1:59 speed otherwise isnt overly hard. Living is probably the biggest problem for 1:59.

23. Bunker 2 :58 - This record could be better than this, but then again maybe it isnt. Seems like Ace got extremely lucky on this run, though. Nothing really went wrong, and on this level thats huge.

22. Silo 1:30- Living is a huge problem, but there were still quite a few stucks on this run.

21. Facility 00A :55- I guess i dunno why this isnt closer to sa :55, but 00A has that certain factor that makes it a little harder.

20. Depot SA :43 - Pretty hard when the Mainframes never complete and if they do you have to make the TS, but for any good depot player 43 speed isnt that hard.

19. Control SA 4:11- Good record, but with an insane glass strat 4:09 or so is doable. Also, nobody except Bryan is even insane enough to blow through the glass, and i dont think Illu and Ace are too far behind in terms of speed. Not to mention Dan.

18. Train 1:26- I dont really care about Train. For all i know this record could be very average on PAL.

17. Train 1:52- same as above.

16. Bunker 1 00 1:07- Lots of things need to go right for this record, took me and Wouter a while but apparently bryan and eddie got lucky to get this so far. Still, was untied for like 2 years and is still a good record and its weird that 4 people have it.

15. Control 00A 4:13- I guess 4:13 speed isnt that hard, but living is very difficult on this level.

14. Aztec Agent 1:33- Pretty solid record, could go lower with insanity but close to max IMO.

13. Jungle SA :56- I guess this could go lower, but still very solid run and only a few people are remotely close. But then again, nobody cares about Jungle so maybe this record isnt that great.

12. Jungle 00A :58- Living is very hard, but this record should definitely be improved.

11. Frigate SA 1:02/1:03. I guess I dunno what this record really is, but the hostages never complete so it must be strong.

10. Train Agent 1:01 - lolololol train lolol

9. Silo Agent 1:04 - Basically insane, 103 is barely possible. If it even is...

8. Bunker 2 SA :49- pretty insane record. I have no idea how he managed to destroy all those cams so fast in this laggy piece of @#%$ level.

7. Control Agent 3:59- Some didnt think this was the best, but i personally think this is the best Control record.

6. Aztec 00A 1:47- How the @#%$ did he survive?

5. Streets Agent 1:13 - would take me 200 hours.

4. Depot 00A :50- I dont think anyone denies how insane this record is.

3. Silo SA 1:10 - This could be the best record, who knows. Insane run.

2. Dam 1:17- Maybe this is the best record, but its a much more consistent, skillful level than most other levels. Still an extremely insane time.

1. Frigate Agent :23- I just dont think words can describe how insane this time is when the hotages complete every 34932493243920 years. Basically guaranteed to spend 100+ hours for this...

I think the train sweep are the best 3 WRs, with 1:01 at the top, but really other than that it's so hard to rank exactly what the best WRs are.

Also cradle 00A 36 is a lot harder than 36 SA, not even in the same league, so that's why its untied :P

Lol you putting 00A as more difficult than SA on Statue shows how much you know about Statue :b  And if you think it's just about getting the FR (i.e. luck) then you ranking Frigate :23 as the highest doesn't make sense, since you've said before "anyone can fail 23". Also the number of ppl that got 2:20 on 00A shortly before 2:19 happened shows 2:19 is much more difficult than 2:20. Lastly did you know Henrik did a TAS and only got 2:18?
= way underrated.

Control 00A is ranked WAY too low, ditto for all of Train, especially 1:01, which is an incredible time, untied by an incredible amount for an agent level, I would maybe put it in top 5.

I think it's funny that becuz it took you and Wouter many 1:08s and lots of hours to get 1:07, but me and Bryan hardly any, you insist that means we just got lucky. :lol

B2 :24 and Cradle :34 seem way underrated to me, a lot of ppl would consider these a couple of the very best agent records.

Silo 1:03 is overrated, I think even Ryan would agree 1:02 is easily possible and we all know Ryan could do it.

I agree with a lot of those, but yeah, here are my opinions:

Cradle A 34 is way too underrated.. it's one of those INSANE runs (perhaps fluked? I don't know), and very hard to be duplicated. I'd put it on top 5.

I'd also put Train 101 a little higher (like 3rd or 4th), and Streets 113 a little lower. Nobody has put some real effort into it, besides Ryan (and Wouter). Also, B2 58 sould be way higher. Bryan had like 1:01 for the WR, and 58 is 3 seconds better, so it's a very strong record on a @#%$ level.

Frigate 23 is kind of a mysterious record.. we don't know if Wouter got "lucky" or not, perhaps some random good player could put like 10 hours in it and fluke? Or maybe he'd play 300 hours and still wouldn't get it? Whatever, it should be 1st (by far) for the ammount of dedication needed.

I accidently put 00A lower than SA for statue, eddie, lol. sorry about that.

And yes, you did just get lucky, especially Bryan though. Its so rare to have those guards not be in the way at the glass door. Sure you used a much more solid strat, but we both know without that boost thatd have been 108. Then again, maybe not when that MF trick saves a good amoutn of time, 107 could be cakey as @#%$ now.

I dunno, maybe 107 should be ranked higher now, who knows.

I personally dont think cradle 34 is that great, didnt take bryan that long and people have come close. Technically 2 people have already gotten it (michael did but never proved it since his tape broke), and he claims it took him less time than 35, so it cant be too insane.

Maybe B2 58 is better.

Trains i think i listed just fine. PAL they have got to be easier, you just cant go through like a mad man like that on NTSC. I'll probably buy a PAL system some day to test these things out myself, but as of now i really believe Train is so PAL advantaged that its sick.

Why the Control 00A record is ranked so low is beyond me. It's much better than 3:59 which is a few spots below it.

And yes, the insanity of the train records are not being recognized...

@#%$ you, Dave, seriously...we both know when you set off the alarm really early they are NEVER blocking the glass door, there was no "luck" there, wtf are you talking about? And I was commonly getting 1:1 ends, besides I got no boost at the beginning, which is UNlucky, but of course ignore that, you stupid @#%$. It's getting old you trying to act like I'm such an inferior player to have this record being and so upset that you supposedly don't have an extremely impressive record anymore, just because I got it.

All I am saying is that 107 is only slightly better than a 108 old mf strat. I ran some comparison and your strat is at least .3 faster, i mean we both had a 1:1 ending and it was still .3 faster. But i guess a .3 time saver doesnt matter at all...:lol :lol

But really calm down, i meant the glass door thing towards bryan anyway. I was just jealous you got it so fast to be honest, sorry about that. Please just dont get upset about it.

what I see is Eddie is ranked 17th, and has some of the better half of the WR with statue 219s, b1 107, has had an untied, and has way more experience in the elite.

Clem is ranked 34th, still has sketchy looking times on his page, most of his WRs are mainstream (exceptions of dam 159 and b1 107) and has way less experience in the elite.

I know sometimes you can't help but criticize runs, like when I couldn't tie Bryan's 112 which I worked harder on and knew more about, or when I got jipped out of cradle 34, or when Patrik tied my s2 51, but really, if you're going to argue personally about who has the bigger dick at least have something to back it up with.

I know both of you have put many hours into b1 00.  Personally I'd say Eddie has more knowledge since he came up with these new strats.  Who is more skilled is yet to be determined and/or indeterminable, but really, it's an old tied WR which isn't one of say the top 5 WRs, and it's nothing to argue about if they got lucky or anything.

It's not a precious untied or legendary WR so really just let up on it.

Also, imo the records should just be placed in tiers or groups of WRs, all of similar difficulty.  It is much harder to dispute these groups, they tend to be more accurate and it makes WRs easy to be compared with others in the same league as them.

Tier 1 (easiest, usually very easy to replicate)

Runway SA 0:23
Archives A 0:16
Archives SA 0:55
Archives 00A 0:55
Streets SA 1:56
Streets 00A 1:56
Depot A 0:26

Tier 2 (slightly harder.  Still easy to get and replicate but only for the better players)

Surface 1 A 1:03
Surface 1 SA 1:50
Surface 1 00A 1:50
Surface 2 A 0:51
Caverns A 1:03
Egypt SA 0:47
Egypt 00A 0:47

Tier 3 (still relatively easy but harder than the others often because of relying on luck.  Skill can be a factor here and it's where some players start to become incapable of certain of these WRs)

Dam A 0:53
Runway A 0:22
Bunker 1 A 0:17
Bunker 1 SA 0:23
Statue A 2:20
Statue SA 2:19
Statue 00A 2:19
Cradle SA 0:36
Egypt A 0:46

Tier 4 (still far from the upper class of WRs, but hard enough that most people struggle with them or can't get them)

Facility A 0:46
Facility SA 0:55
Frigate 00A 1:11
Surface 2 SA 0:54
Surface 2 00A 1:29
Depot SA 0:43
Cradle 00A 0:36

Tier 5 (respectable WRs which take much effort for almost any player who isn't naturally gifted at the level)

Dam 00A 1:59
Facility 00A 0:55
Bunker 1 00A 1:07
Silo 00A 1:30
Jungle A 0:52
Caverns SA 1:22
Caverns 00A 1:42
Aztec SA 1:41

Tier 6 (start to see very good WRs here.  Just the worse of the very good)

Silo A 1:04
Bunker 2 A 0:24
Bunker 2 SA 0:49
Bunker 2 00A 0:58
Jungle SA 0:56
Jungle 00A 0:58
Cradle A 0:34

Tier 7 (slightly better than the previous tier, but distinctively so)

Runway 00A 0:37
Frigate SA 1:02
Streets A 1:13
Depot 00A 0:50
Control A 3:59
Control SA 4:11
Aztec A 1:33

Tier 8 (Simply the best of the best)

Dam SA 1:17
Silo SA 1:10
Frigate A 0:23
Control 00A 4:13
Aztec 00A 1:47

Tier 9 (tier 9, CLOUD 9??? lol maybe but seriously its just perfectace & train)

Train A 1:01
Train SA 1:26
Train 00A 1:52

What is "correct"? the idea with this topic was just to discuss how good x record is and get a general consensus. The idea isnt to make a "perfect" list that everyone agrees with, like such a thing is possible anyway. Everyone has a different view on how good each record is .

I was thinking about doing teirs too.  When it's so subjective you can't really seperate many records, but you can probably agree pretty closely on tiers.

Isn't eygpt A 46 just as easy as 00 47?

cool list Ryan. obviously i disagree with some of it atm because i don't like to play a lot of different levels.

Depot 00 is overrated.

Id say 46 should be harder in theory, but the intense gayness i expirienced on 47 00 id be inclined to agree on the being equal

Depot 00 is not an overrated record. The fact that B on completes once every half hour or so does make it an underplayed level, but when B completes you still have to finish the run. Sure, 50 speed isn't too difficult, but to have everything come together on one run is, which is what makes it so good.

50 is not overrated because of the nerves involved when everything has gone right. A lot of ppl have 50 fails w/the MFs not completing, but that means little becuz then the rest of the run is just a freeroll.

Not to mention, was very difficult for Boss to tie.

50 is overrated because 50 speed is easy. many records require luck and so does this one. extreme luck would give a 49 even, but thats where nerves kick in. if your having trouble with nerves why not put some masking tape over the bottom left of your TV and play out each run until you complete 50 :p

i guess im not one to judge 50 until i get it, or have i gotten it... ooo :lol

Depot 00A is a lot easier to handle the nerves without music.  I didn't struggle nearly as much when the music was turned off.  Unfortunately, I usually still knew what my speed was without the music and would still get nervous.  But even with that said, the record is overrated.

In my opinion, I think Egypt A 46, would be easier to achive than Egypt 00 47. I find the last Baron on 00 to be so damn hard...and the second Baron hardly dies. :

Frig A 23 15th? Get a reality check. You need to be regularly failing 23 to have a shot at it, and that's what makes it difficult. Afaik hardly anyone has even failed it.

my list is the best anyways lol...

like I say frigate 23 is right up there with the insane stuff; silo 110, dam 117, control 413 and aztec 147.  Those 5 WRs just stand out more from the rest (other than the trains which are in a league alone)

23 speed is cakey for me, but making the bug throw every time is too hard. I failed 22 spinning and shooting at the guards, but IMO it cant be legit at all when your odds of hitting them are like .0000001% and the hostages complete every 120 hours. Frigate 23 is insane and IMO the best record simply because you are guaranteed to spend 100-200 hours to get it, basically. I could get Dam 117 in like 30-50 hours, perhaps, but frigate 23 would take so much longer.

and I dunno, depot 50 isnt overrated at all imo. sounds like Bryan got some boost near the end of his run that maybe got him 50. and i've never had that boost on 00.

Yeah, the topic is most difficult WRs, and I would think putting 100-200 hours into getting it would be pretty difficult. And if only a few have been able to fail it consistently, the "all luck" argument is crap. I wouldn't call it the best GE WR but prolly gotta give it the top spot for agent, with the closest challengers being Train and Streets. I think Streets is being underrated now just cuz it's no longer untied.

I'll make some kind of list one of these days. :b

I still don't really think you can justify it as being really hard just because it takes a long time because you get unlucky. Suppose that some guy came along, spent about 10 hours on Frigate Agent, got his first 0:23, and it happened to complete. What, then? Just because it took Wouter 120 hours doesn't mean it would take everybody that long. If 10 people have failed it, 10 people have done what is necessary to get it. Because they didn't get lucky doesn't make Wouter's run better. He may be getting 0:23 more often, but they've still done it. He may be better, but they've still done it. 10 people. Scrolling down the list, there are five other Agent records that 10 or more people have, which makes 14 that nine or less have done.

Dave, you said it would take 30-50 hours for you to get 1:17 and 100-200 to get 0:23. But how many times would you do all you have the responsibility of doing in Dam SA? Once. You may fail a 1:17 missing an alarm or something, but that's your fault. How many times would you do all you can do (leaving the rest to luck) in Frigate A? Hundreds, possibly thousands of times. In my mind, not getting a WR because you didn't get lucky doesn't make it better when someone else does.

And yes, you can give the argument that you have to establish an incredible level of consistency in order to pull it off. Here's the thing: YOU GUYS DON'T KNOW THAT FOR SURE. Like I said before, what if somebody spent 10 hours on the level, got a 0:23, and it completed. At this point, all we can say you need for sure is incredible luck. Not enough people have spent enough time on it to confirm that you also need ridiculous consistency.

Wouter, I'm not trying to take away from your accomplishment. It's an untied World Record, and no one can take that away. But I'm composing my chart based on how hard I think it would be skillwise to get these records. I'm trying to exclude the luck factor because no one can predict luck or say how hard it is to get lucky (for sure, because we've only seen it happen to one guy, which is not reliable evidence).

Your just digging yourself into a deeper hole. Unknowledged people shouldnt argue over things like this. Also 3 people have 24 only.... anyone with 24 knows how much more of a leap 23 is. 23 is probly the least likely wr to be achieved again by anyone.

Yeah, because of luck. A'ight, I will concede in part.

ATTENTION: My World Record list is intended to show which records are hardest to get in terms of skill only. Which probably means Dam 1:17 should be better then Silo 1:10, but oh well.
