Hey guys, I'm from over at mariokart64.com.  I made this spreadsheet that auto-grabs all the goldeneye times from the-elite.net and has some features like:

Select any player and view their times, ranks (or points) on each level, difference from WR, their matchups against every other player (win-loss tie against everyone overall , in A, SA, and 00, total time difference, points difference)

Select any 2 players and see both of their sets of times next to each other and who's winning each level, total wins, etc.

Select any level and view all the times on A,SA,00 (just like on the site, so not particularly necessary)

Dunno if you guys have anything like this, but maybe you'll like it.  You can suggest other features if you like.

Thats a pretty cool spreadsheet :)  and could be very usefull to allmost everyone on the elite.

I played around with a prog and wrote somthing similar using Visual Studio 2003 (VB.Net). I still use the program today but unfortunatily don't have the source code anymore:\ .

I'm not an expert in Excel so I dont really know how the code works, but i do have 1 major hang up with your spreadsheet, everytime it's opened you have to wait a few minutes for it to connect to the internet and download all the information. I do however have a suggestion to get around this. Could you add an 'Update Spreadsheet' Button, So it only needs to be updated when the world rankings are updated Mondays & Thursdays?

Other than that it's a very good spreadsheet and will come in useful:)

Thats another reason I suggest the update button, so it only needs to update twice a week.

Im changing the names in the drop down boxes but nothings happening for me.  Someone help??

Otherwise this looks really awesome and a lot of potential to see where you need to improve.  Looks like it could be a great tool.

Thanks gragz... yeah I set it to refresh on each open, maybe not a good idea.  I can add a button very easily.  I'll do that instead.  It only took about 20 seconds for me to refresh the data though.  It reads the pages for each level when it refreshes, so 20 pages.

Ryan do you have Macro's enabled?

On the spreadsheet choose Tools/Options/Security/Macro Security, set the option to medium and reopen the spreadsheet.

Ryan, dunno what's wrong.  Get on AIM and I can help you figure it out.  At least your name is already in the drop down box ;)

AIM : sully1986

edit: Ryan was using Excel 2002.  For some reason the paes didnt recalculate when he changed names in drop-down boxes.  The easy way around this is to just change the name and then press F9 to recalculate everything.

I also uploaded a new version with and update button to refresh the data from t-e.n

Wouter: Of course, if use of this stresses the server too much I'll stop using it and urge others to stop as well.  The full refresh of the data is less than a video download.  We'll see what happens.

This sounds like the "One On One" by Sam www.qntm.org/oneonone_ge.html

I'll grab it and take a look.

EDIT: I don't know how you programmed this tho, it's 15mb. :rolleyes

EDIT2: Looks kinda nice. Although I don't like the structure of it as much as Sam's. The matchup-table on "1 Player" was nice. Great work :)

Patrik,

Didnt know about that other sheet.  My matchup page isn't really as full featured.  I put most of my work into the 1Player page and doing the matchups vs all other players.  About the 15MB, there's LOTS of hidden cells/sheets that do the calculation for the various pages.  That's sort of a problem with all of my Excel sheets.  There's probably ways to drastically reduce the size of this sheet with better formulas and using VB to do calculations, but I just threw this together and didnt have a vision of where it was going when I started.

I'm glad you like it though.  I'll see if I can make it better sometime.  Are there any other specific features you'd like to see?

Your excel file is very nice, but there's seems to be a bug with times over 10 minutes.

When checking my stats and total times, I noticed my total time was off by some seconds. After comparing my times, I noticed Bunker II 00A was 15:41, whereas my real time is 15:44 and Jungle SA was 12:41 (real time: 12:49). I then checked the times from someone else with times over 10 minutes. His 11:10 became 11:11, 11:33 turned into 11:31.

I thought you would probably like to know this, in case you didn't already.

Probably the reason why it looks abit wierd is that it calculates the rank on ever level. I don't think the majority of GE/PD players count a specific time as 23th or 12th. Maybe the standard format should be points instead of rank.

Still great :)  I would like to see more "helping" calculation programs. :)

Matthijs - I didn't know that...hmm, I'll look at it when I get home today and maybe post a new spreadsheet.

Patrik - Yeah we only do rank at mariokart64.com.  They're basically the same thing anyways.
