I agree, the most it can save is a thousanth if even anything (i personally dont think it saves anything). I think its more a matter of making certain levels easier to see, and thus seems easier, or is for the person if it works better with their "forte". But for me, cinema looks lame as hell and i cant play worth @#%$ with it.

I assume by being faster..

anyway.. if such a small level already has significant gain, then this could really be much like lookdown.

Actually Alex...isnt that 1.2? I dont think something like cinema could really save .3....but 1.2 yes. Unless you did vid comparisons of both 1.2 and 1.1 then i guess i must agree with you.

Alex uses 1.2 on bunker2.  His comparison is 1.2 regular vs 1.2 cinema I'd assume.

i was playing 1.2 widescreen for a day

then I played 1.2 cinema, and yes It IS .3 faster
then 1.2 with widescreen. and if widescreen > regular, then theres even more difference

I say get :24 1.2 normal mode. I mean even if you got 24 with cinema, it wouldnt feel like much of an accomplishment would it? Thats like cheating on a math test or using pills to get a bigger ****.

Oh gee i dunno, i suppose a boosts worth of time isnt counted as cheating? Hm, maybe I'll buy a gameshark and get dam 49 or something. Well i guess calling it cheating is a bit extreme, Ill give you that, but really the fact is bryan got it without cinema and a 24 with cinema just isnt the same record. its the same time but the record is 24 with cinema. so even so, 24 will still be untied in my mind, until someone gets it no cinema mode.

if its in the game its not cheating. Adapt.

doubt its viable on many levels, unless you really want to learn how to play it. so far I can only use it on b2 and archives. which i got another 55 with.

It seems to vary level to, though probly because strafe lines are hard to follow, I couldnt get depot 26, though i never did have a decent train shot, and my strafe liens were always innacurate. But for levels like train, bunker 2, archives, facility, or anything else really tight, im sure it will be useful

If we found out ammo on screen caused .3 time saver, I know you wouldnt bitch about it, and would use right away cause its more conventional, but cinema,  its basically like learning a new control style.

If I played with Cinema i might go blind.

And no ammo on screen? lol thats unacceptable for me, Id never use it.

This reminds me of when i switched to 1.2. Really 1.2 just makes things smoother. Its hard to aim at a guards head or something on 1.1 for me, and on levels like surface 1 (locks) its obviously faster. However, i just find it makes speed running a million times more enjoyable. I can see why using cinema is cool if you actually like it, but making the game less fun for a better time just seems unethical to me. Ive always been a man of honor, i guess. Cinema is just ***** ****.

Well, speaking as a lurker who just likes to watch vids and stuff, I think cinema looks pretty cool, actually... It shows the same height, but more width, so what's the problem?

Could it be faster because it reduces lag? I mean, the console doesn't have to put out as many pixels, since a large portion of the screen is just black... Would make sense...

^ Yeah, thats exactly why its faster.

I'm gonna try dam agent for fun with this...see if 53 is easier or something. I have 3 53's anyway, but I am interested.

things i suggest be tested:

- Depot 00 box shot
- Dam SA alarm shots

Well my thought was always the game might output less pixels, but it has to process more of the scenery, since your perspective is wider.

I tried it for Train and found myself to be a lot more consistent with hitting brakes and locks (two things I'm not good at).

I don't think it's cheap. If it reduces lag then so what?. Isn't that the same reason why people use lookdown?

Lookdown doesnt really ruin fun though. Makes things easier actually since you can see where to strafe better.

I wouldn't say ruin fun. I think that this will be one of those things that after a while you won't even notice the huge borders.

You know, it sounds weird me saying that considering I hate widescreen movies with a passion for that same reason (the borders that is):D

just admit it already, if it is cheap, then so is anything else that is used to save time, including 1.2

I don't think something that takes getting used to (you sound scared of switching to it yourself..) is cheap. maybe you being scared of having to switch eventually makes you try to ignore it etc, but then you should realize I've been in the same boat for over years with needing to switch to 1.2, which I still haven't really :p

I guess. I mean we are speed running here. But really i have fun anyway and if i cant have fun with cinema, whatever. I know I'd never get a train record, anyway. and Im pretty sure only Train can significantly benefit from this since its very laggy. but dam sa might significantly benefit as well. if those alarm shots are faster then 117 just got a world easier.

Personally, I play games to have fun, not so I can frustratingly learn new Control Styles and viewing options to get slightly better times. Like, Aztec 00. The only reason I played that level for so long is because 8:05 is a horrible time and I knew I was capable of a time around 3:00, which happened to be exactly what I got. I bet you that I never get a better time on that level as long as I live. I may never play it again (at least not seriously). If I learned 1.2 and spent more time with CC and things like that, I bet I could be a lot better at GoldenEye. But it wouldn't be much fun anymore. It'd be like a job; a duty. I never want video games to be a duty in my life.
nothin' moves me more than a groove that soothes me
nothin' soothes me more than a groove that boosts me
nothin' boosts me more, or suits me beautifully
there's nothin' you can do to me; stab me, shoot me

IMO this cinema thing is pretty gay, but to say it's cheating and to compare it to GAMESHARK is just stupid, it's a game/control setting no different than using 1.2 instead of 1.1. I would consider both lookdown and cruise control more fair to be considered "cheating" than cinema.

It sucks if I, and all the top ranked players have wasted so many hours on normal mode with something like this found, but like Wouter said stuff like that has happened many times, so what can you do? Like he said, just gotta adapt.

Wouldnt worry about it, Only Train Archives and Bunker 2 seem to benefit from my experiences. I cant control the other levels maybe thats why, but I dont think its gonna have a huge impact

oh ya the .3 thing is based on my quit outs at glass door. the watch was ALWAYS about .3 behind where it should have been (in the 50 hours ive played before) then all of a sudden EVERY RUN was that much faster. I never complete 26s anymore, unless the warp was missed. EVERY run is 25 or 26 no warp. Before it was at best 50/50 between 25/26, usually 26 if the run was meh. Now its guaranteed 25.

AND

Archives. Its definately faster. I failed 3 55s in a row, one had 5 stucks and no boost.....

And about that 55 fail i posted earlier, well watch this!

I ran the run till the beep of the key obtain, then swapped the vid with another run (cinema) with the key obtain. I swapped it with a Dostevei finish, to cancel out any possible gain from an innacurate switch. Though i was in the hundreths of frames here, so its friggen accurate.

The result u ask?

well watch for yourself. I beat my 55 SA by 1 second!

Mind you the 55 had shot doors, different start and no boost. I still am 100% sure cinema is faster. This proves that 54 will happen, and if anyone wants to get it before I do, feel free. Im working for b2 24 mainly first. then 54s.

That vid didnt turn out so accurate as i wanted.

To see more of what I was trying to interperet watch:

The regular comparison

Then an ending comparison

I took each end from the frame where the beep sound was present. It looks weird but I made extra sure they both started at the same time

Together its about 1s faster then that first 55, which is just to show 54 is possible. Also, I was stuck when i got that boost so yeah -_-

All vids are 521 Kbs, so they run at the same speed, and they were both captured from the same vcr, so its as accurate as its gonna get

might as well have a separate ranking page for 1.2 users as well.

and separate ones for those who don't use the aztec glitch etc.

it's a waste of time. it's not like the advantages PAL perfect dark players have

people aren't really getting an unfair advantage just because others don't want to use it.

if people can see that it's faster, and they refuse to use it, then they don't really have much right to complain about it

i tried it once, got 1:18 on streets...it was a bad run :)
