How can you say 1:03 PAL is equal to 1:05 NTSC DAA? How can you even have a clue since you don't have both systems? :rolleyes

Insane Rayan! That's truly a sweeet record!

DAA,

I feel like every comment you make on a WR is either a backhanded compliment (like this one), or an outright crapping on the record (e.g "I'm not that impressed with XXX record.)

Can't you just appreciate it and move on?

What Ace has done here is the most impressive thing I've ever seen, he makes it seem like a great WR "only" :p  but Henrik's the only one anywhere close. Though Ace has been getting so many WRs in so few days that in that sence no one is close.

1:02 would be best WR definitely, though 1:03 might still be, well one of the very best at least.

If you feel pressure at the end of a great run it's prolly cause your thinking about not screwing up. GE WRs are good enough now that you should be going all out for speed the whole way through all the way to the end. You can't just simply play not to screw up. You need to have the mentality I'm going to play as fast as I know how, at the best of my abilities, and if something goes wrong in all the risks I'm taking then so be it, I'll just have to do it again. The fear of failure should never arise if you have the right mentality.

Yeah it's been like that for me on some stuff, I could afford to watch myself "not to screw up" on most, though when I was going for 1:17 there couldn't be any doubt in the end anymore I realised and then I got it.

Okay, followup, watched some vids.

Train A 1:03 - Perfect locks, though, in fairness, there have certainly been faster train cars, no?

Bunker 2 00 0:58 - You know, I remember Bryan's 1:01 standing out to me as an awesome run when I DLed a ton of his vids last week... While I actually thought "This level is wide open.. why aren't people attacking it?", I did not expect anything like this.  Reminds me when Wouter took Jungle 00 from 1:02 to 0:58... a great record.  Hell, down the stretch you were getting boosts!  I'd like to see how this stands up after more people play this strat, though.

Silo SA 1:10 - This one may've impressed me the most.  You maintained so much speed for so long.. I kept thinking, "when's this going to stop being perfect?"  Like, I was cringing, but it just kept flying.  Eventually it settled down, but still a very, very reputable WR.

Good job.. Ryans.

Btw, I noticed the video links need updating on the-elite.net (shouldn't there be someone on this? i'm done with page management).  Someone give me the speedrunwiki link to the video table.

Nah 1:03 is good but i think PAL is just so dang advantaged on train that its being vastly overrated. Id say like 1:01 would be possible.

Well, how about you go play PAL and then get 1:01, since you know so much about both systems having extensively played them both.  You do own both systems, right?  Right?  You're defenitely an authority on PAL/NTSC differences.

Derek: is that a good thing or a bad thing? I try to critisize runs more so the make the player more aware of mistakes and eventually becoming more perfect by seeing more flaws, and thus more able to help lower the total. if you were the only one to critisize with good comments about the run, it would be all that's needed for anyone to feel totally good. so yes, you need to be around more, since we even out ;)  I am interested in knowing what you think about me..

As for PAL being better, there's been no research or proof on that whatsoever yet. Why can't you believe that Rayan can beat Bryan's time? he pwned b2 00 by 3 sec, while PAL is likely to be slower there! Bryan himself said his 1:05 wasn't amazing! From what I hear from the comments from those having seen the 1:03, it was a good run! Surely better than 1:05 NTSC by the sound of it. besides, if he had NTSC, I can't even imagine the damage he would do to GE.. and PD!

Rayan's locks were awesome but wasn't Henrik's locks still better? I was really impressed by Henrik's locks.

Rayan's 1:04 run is the most impressive imo. The run is so bloody smooth that it must have been 1:01 pace or something, atleast with Henrik's lock.

Lmao, This is so hilarous. I spoke to Rayan yesterday, we both said we wouldn't be going for 1:03 in the near future. Today i had like 20 minutes of playing time and i decided to actually go for 1:03. Then i come back and Rayan already got it :lol

But seriously, Alex i need a frame perfect video comparising between Rayan's 1:03 and my 1:04. Why? Becouse the comparising i did showed that my 1:04 was faster! (Rayan was like miles ahead of me the entire run until the very end where i ran the guards and then we actually got to locks at the same time though my locks beat his by almost a half second?

Very strange i know and therefor i really need a good comparising vid. I only play them side by side so i may have been a few tenths wrong.

Fact Though: My 1:04 was VERY close to 1:03. And if a real comparising still shows that my run was faster then either the videos runs at diffrent speeds or the games timer @#%$ up or something.

And seriously DAA, stop speaking @#%$ about the record. It's way better than a 1:05 ntsc.

I'll definately go for 1:03 though this week is my busiest ever so far this year and i just can't find the same time Rayan has to play.

Video Comparising: (thanks to Rayan for making this)
Train Agent 1:03 Vs 1:04

See for yourselves, it's very strange.

It is strange indeed, but i think your run might start like .2 sec before Rayan's , but you finish like .3 before him, so yeah i'm pretty confused. Like you say, you were very close to 1:03 that's for sure.

Yeah I don't know about that 1:03 vs 1:04. I mean on watching Rayan's run it looked to me no better than the 104s I saw yesterday.

Yeah maybe people will stop debating about whether PAL or NTSC makes such a huge difference. Bryan getting 1:05 NTSC (from which I remember him saying that he could see 1:03-4), combined with Ace's general insanity (b2 58, silo stuff, dam stuff, etc) it just seems silly to keep returning to those arguments.

And though I'm totally not a GE player, I noticed a few stucks in Rayan's run, or is it normal? Can't you get a flawless run on GE? I dunno. :rolleyes

Brayn said he killed like 25 guards..they killed maybe 15. Som obviously PAL is naturally less laggy and thus makes the whole level run more smoothly with a faster lazer and all.

Train is totally fucked up.  I no longer have respect for train beacuse of that 104 vs 103 vid. Just shows how totally screwed up the level is, and 103 is no better than 104.  104 could then be no better than 105 and so on and so forth.

Only thing I do say, is how often Henrik/Ace fell behind in that vid, and then caught up again.  It happened like 6 times.  Just shows that an ideally perfect run where all the best rooms possible are done, would give something like 0:56ish.

It's true that this video is quite disturbing...:\
Maybe it comes from the fact that the video recorders didn't played at the same speed during capture. For exemple, if a tape is at the beginning and the other at the end or whatever...
Anyway, congrats Henrik and Ace, I had never seen such a rivalry on a level for a long time :)

Wow. That is really @#%$ up. I mean I expected it to at least be close but it wasn't. Henrik seemed to finish about a half second faster...

I guess we have proof (?) here that the GE timer is never consistent, or at least on this level. Who's to say it's ever been shown that it IS? In real time, hypothetically assume Henrik got a 1:03.75 and Ace a 1:04.25. Then if the game timer somehow loses or gains more than just a quarter second then we have Ace 1:03 and Henrik 1:04, assuming it ran fast on Henrik's and slow on Ace's.

I wouldn't be surprised if the game timer isn't always consistent. I've had runs on Statue where 2 separate seemed completely identical by the finish music but were 2:19 and 2:20. But here I am talking hundredths of a second. So maybe it's just a Train thing? It could also explain confusion on Dam agent where 54s look cleaner than 53s. Could be factor in levels with lots of lag I guess. I definitely think it's worth investigating, especially if someone figured out it was something we were doing during the level to change the timer, so we could maybe learn to avoid making it run fast...

Henrik must be pretty pissed to see that... :rolleyes

It could be that Henrik's run captured faster. I think one could be alarmed by that finding only when comparing runs captured by the same capture card and on the same tape + tape speed.

Yeah could be that, but it's very unlikely I guess. Like Bryan said, only if you capture both on the same CC and it keeps the same difference you'll have to be REALLY worried.

But yeah, Henrik finished like half a second faster, so there's surely something wrong with the timer, IMO. OR Henrik's run just had way more lag and the game made up with that 0.5s (could be some major lag that happens only on Train). And it'd be totally gay.

that was truly odd, maybe your time could have to do with the final cinema or going to the screen?  lol, I dont see how the 103 is faster, they started pretty darn close together and the end was a large difference.

I did a rough stopwatch test on both runs, both timed right at the start, with me stopping the watch at the first sign of fade out. The results were i got Ace`s run at 1:04 , while Henrik`s is like 1:03:50, and that`s being generous.

It would seem the timer stops just before the fade out mind, so Ace would have gotten a high 1:03, but that would mean Henrik would have had a 1:03:30 or something like that.I was gonna do spilts for each "room"/car or whatever, but maybe later.

Obviously stopwatching aint precise, but it gives one a rough idea.

Edit: Did a SW on Henrik`s 1:05, which was 1:05:4-5ish, and Ace`s 1:06 was a 1:06 SW, if they captured them the same as there other times, then somewhere Henrik was skanked a half sec it seems :b . But it`ll blow over im sure when Henrik gets 1:03 :lol

We've seen this before on facility, it could be GEs in game timer is weird or that the two captures run at different speeds.  We're dealing with .5s out of 63, .5/63 = .8%.  VCR captures I don't believe are .8% accurate.

Henrick and Rayan could do a test to see if Henrick's runs capture at a faster real time speed: Start dam and use a clock to time 5 minutes and quit out.  Get it to within or 2 seconds.  Capture and compare.  If Henrick really is 1% faster then his run should end 3 seconds ahead when compared.

err.. almost all control vids I see when you detract the time the run starts from when it ends, is like 2 sec lower than the time gotten. it's because most people that capture don't watch if frames are being dropped and such :rolleyes
